The relationship between low LDL-C (cholesterol associated with low-density lipoprotein) and a lower relative risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been widely demonstrated. Although from a pharmacological point of view, statins, ezetimibe and PCSK inhibitors, alone or in combination are the front and center of the therapeutic approaches for reducing LDL-C and its CV consequences, in recent years nutraceuticals and functional foods have increasingly been considered as a valid support in the reduction of LDL-C, especially in patients with mild/moderate hyperlipidemia - therefore not requiring pharmacological treatment - or in patients intolerant to statins or other drugs. ⋯ In light of these evidence, this review aimed to describe the effects of artichoke and bergamot in modifying the lipid and inflammatory parameters described in in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies. The available data support the use of standardized compositions of artichoke and bergamot extracts, alone or in combination, in the treatment of mild to moderate dyslipidemia, in patients suffering from metabolic syndrome, hepatic steatosis, or intolerant to common hypolipidemic treatments.

Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the newly discovered severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We have plenty of data about the clinical features of the disease's acute phase, while little is known about the long-term consequences on survivors. ⋯ Current literature highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to Coronavirus Disease 19 since the sequelae appear to involve different organs and systems. Given the pandemic outbreak's size, this is a critical public health issue: a better insight on this topic should inform clinical decisions about the modalities of follow-up for COVID-19 survivors.

Chronobiology studies the biological rhythms or circadian cycles of living organisms and their adaptation to external changes. Biological rhythms can affect hormone production cycles such as sleep/wake, and nutrition/fasting, but these factors can also alter the circadian rhythm (CR). ⋯ In this context, a single food and a specific combination of these, can also affect the CR and fasting cycle and consequently body weight and viceversa. The purpose of the review is to propose practical nutritional recommendations to help in resynchronizing the circadian rhythm as a tool in weight control.

Asthma has long been recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways, often in response to inhaled allergens prompting inappropriate activation of the immune response involving a range of cells including mast cells, Th2 lymphocytes and eosinophils alongside a wide range of inflammatory mediators. First-line therapy for treatment of persistent asthma involves the use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) in combination with inhaled β
2 -agonists enabling both the control of the underlying airways inflammation and a reduction of airway hyperresponsiveness. ⋯ The success of fixed dose combination inhalers containing both a bronchodilator and an anti-inflammatory drug has also led to the development of "bifunctional" drugs which are molecules specifically designed to have two distinct pharmacological actions based on distinct pharmacophores. In this review we will discuss these different pharmacological approaches under development for the treatment of bronchial asthma and the available preclinical and clinical data. -
Asthma is a very heterogeneous disease and since early childhood many classifications have been proposed according to phenotype and endotype. The phenotype includes the clinical features of asthma such as age of onset, triggers, comorbidities, response to treatment and evolution over time. ⋯ A deep knowledge of phenotype and endotype of the patient may guide a tailored therapeutic approach. In this review the main phenotypes and endotypes of asthma acknowledged in children will be discussed.
