Comparative Study[Pain in rheumatoid arthritis measured with the visual analogue scale and the Dutch version of the McGill Pain Questionnaire].
Chronic pain is an important symptom of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Pain is a complex experience and is not easily measured with a single instrument. Recently a Dutch version of the McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) became available. ⋯ The VAS is easily administered and is reliable. The MPQ offers insight in the sensory experience of pain and gives more information about the quality of life of the patient. The conclusion is that the MPQ is a useful instrument to obtain a better picture of the complexity of the pain experience in RA.

Case Reports[Blunt thoracic trauma with lesions of the heart and large vessels].
A man aged 26 was admitted after a traffic accident. The chest X-ray showed widening of the mediastinum without rib or sternal fractures. Therefore an aortogram was made which showed an avulsion of the aortic valve and a rupture of the left common carotid artery. ⋯ If there is widening of the mediastinum on the chest X-ray an aortogram should be made. In this way the diagnosis, rupture of the thoracic aorta or of one of the aortic arch branches, and traumatic valve rupture can be made. Early diagnosis can be life saving.

Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia is a rare disease which represents a congenital disorder of mesenteric lymphatics and is associated with typical clinical signs. ⋯ Substitution therapy may be necessary. The longer-term prognosis appears to be good.
