Comparative Study
[SYSVENT: Proof of Concept Study of a Prototype to Ventilate Critical Care Patients].
The new coronavirus pandemic has led to scarcity of invasive ventilation resources in hospitals in several countries. In this context, the Portuguese Medical Association invited intensive care physicians who, in collaboration with SYSADVANCE S.A., developed SYSVENT OM1, a ventilator capable of operating in controlled and assisted modes (volume and pressure) and able to treat patients admitted to intensive care units. In this study we do the proof of concept comparing programmed tidal volume, inspiratory pressure and positive end-expiratory pressure with those measured by the ventilator and an external measuring equipment. ⋯ For tested parameters, the ventilator has a good operating performance, is in accordance with the initial premises and has potential for clinical use.

A 15-year-old girl was admitted to the emergency room because of a bilateral tonic-clonic seizure. The family reported that the episode began with rapid hand movements in front of the patient's eyes while staring at the sun. ⋯ Most occurrences were associated with episodes of frustration. The review of the literature has shown that this type of phenomenon, designated in some studies by sunflower syndrome, may be overlooked in patients with photosensitive epilepsy. Despite the unknown etiology, there are several reasons why patients experience this type of behavior, and thus a multidisciplinary approach is needed.

Observational Study
The Burden of Post-Thrombotic Syndrome in a Long-Term Retrospective Cohort in Northern Portugal.
Post-thrombotic syndrome is a frequent and disabling complication of deep venous thrombosis. Its incidence is not described in the Portuguese population. The objective of this study is to report the incidence and severity of post-thrombotic syndrome after the initial episode of deep venous thrombosis. ⋯ Large studies of prospective nature could provide more definitive evidence.
