Multicenter StudyEndovascular Deep Vein Stenting of Symptomatic Post-Thrombotic and Non-Thrombotic Iliac Vein Stenotic Lesions: A Multicentre Cohort Experience from Singapore.
This paper presents our experience with deep venous stenting in a multi-ethnic Asian cohort of patients with symptomatic Non-Thrombotic Iliac Vein Lesions (NIVL) and Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS). ⋯ Short term primary patency rates following deep venous stenting are excellent, with few re-interventions. Patients presented with NIVLs rather than PTS. There was excellent clinical improvement at 3 months, with a high and expedient venous ulcer healing rate.

Multicenter StudyTemporal Trends and Patient Characteristics Associated With Drug Utilisation After First-Ever Stroke: Insights From Chronic Disease Registry Data in Singapore.
Data on drug utilisation among stroke patients of Asian ethnicities are lacking. The objectives of the study were to examine the temporal trends and patient characteristics associated with prescription of thrombolytic, antithrombotic and statin medications among patients with first-ever stroke. ⋯ This study reveals changes in prescription behaviour over time in a multiethnic Asian population with first-ever stroke. Patient characteristics including younger age, Malay ethnicity and certain comorbidities (i.e. hyperlipidaemia, atrial fibrillation) were associated with the combined use of all 3 guideline medications among ischaemic stroke patients.

Multicenter StudyPerspectives on Palliative Care Among Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Patients and Their Families in Singapore.
With better medical care, patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) now live longer but face more complex medical and social needs. This study described the perceptions of DMD patients and their families of disease-specific palliative care services in Singapore. ⋯ There is a need to improve awareness and provision of palliative care services for DMD patients in Singapore where discussion of end-of-life care is often considered taboo. Prevention and correction of scoliosis and provision of appropriate ventilatory support may improve quality of life in DMD patients.

Multicenter StudyValidity and reliability of the expectations regarding aging (ERA-12) instrument among middle-aged Singaporeans.
The 12-item Expectations Regarding Aging (ERA-12) instrument measures expectations that individuals have about how their health and cognitive function will be when they age. To date, primarily assessed among older adults in Western settings, expectations regarding ageing have been associated with physical activity and healthcare seeking behaviour. It has been suggested that it may be possible to develop interventions that promote positive expectations about ageing. Assessment of expectations regarding ageing among today's middle-aged population would allow for earlier interventions to help give them positive (but realistic) ageing expectations, and age successfully. We assess the reliability and validity of ERA-12 for middle-aged Singaporeans. ⋯ ERA-12 can be used to evaluate expectations regarding ageing not only among elderly populations in the West, but also among middle-aged Singaporeans.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyEpidemiology and control of hand, foot and mouth disease in Singapore, 2001-2007.
We reviewed the epidemiology of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Singapore after the 2000 epidemic caused by Enterovirus 71 (EV71), with particular reference to the cyclical pattern, predominant circulating enteroviruses and impact of prevention and control measures in preschool centres. ⋯ HFMD remains an important public health problem in Singapore with the annual incidence rate per 100,000 population increasing from 125.5 in 2001 to 435.9 in 2007, despite stringent measures taken in preschool centres to prevent the transmission of infection. A high degree of vigilance should be maintained over the disease situation, in particular, surveillance of EV 71 which continues to cause severe complications and deaths in the region.
