Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are common types of cancers. Among different factors that affect the etiology of GI cancers, diet has an important contribution. Dietary antioxidants decrease oxidative stress which plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis. Several studies assessed the relation between dietary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and risk of GI cancers. Dietary TAC was measured by three indices including FRAP (ferric ion reducing antioxidant power), TRAP (total radical-trapping antioxidant parameter), and TEAC (trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies to determine the association between dietary TAC and GI cancers risk. ⋯ This study indicated that dietary TAC significantly decreased the risk of GI cancers. Nevertheless, further prospective studies are required to clarify the association between dietary TAC and risk of GI cancers.

Gonad Shielding during Pelvic Radiography: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Gonad shielding has been extensively advocated during pelvic radiography at or below reproductive ages. The popular practice of gonad shielding is placement of a lead shield in the midline of the pelvis. The aim of this study was to address the prevalence of gonad shielding and find out whether the current practice of gonad shielding can be considered as an effective method to reduce radiation exposure in patients undergoing pelvic radiography. ⋯ Our study demonstrates that the current practice of gonad shielding during female pelvic radiography should be no longer considered as an effective method to reduce radiation exposure. Training the best qualified radiographers is the key to accurate positioning of the shield in male subjects.

Effect of Coenzyme Q10 Supplementation on Diabetes Biomarkers: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials.
Several studies have investigated the effect of Co-Q10 on diabetes biomarkers, but findings are inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials was conducted to summarize the effect of Co-Q10 supplementation on diabetes biomarkers. ⋯ Co-Q10 supplementation slightly but significantly reduced fasting blood glucose, but not fasting insulin and HbA1c. More long-term studies are necessary to examine the association between Co-Q10 supplementation and diabetes biomarkers. This study was funded by the School of Nutrition and Food Science, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.

Role of HER-2 Ile655Val Polymorphism as Universal Cancer Susceptibility Marker among Different Cancers.
Genetic and expression anomaly of HER-2 have been frequently observed in different cancers. However, an overall association of HER-2 polymorphism (Ile655Val) with available cancer studies has not yet been explored. In the present study, a probable correlation of HER-2 Ile655Val polymorphism with 6 major types of cancers including breast, lung, gastric, ovarian, thyroid and uterine has been collectively assessed. ⋯ In summary, the current study reveals a significant association between cancer susceptibility and the HER-2 Ile655Val polymorphism in all genetic models.

Several studies have been conducted to investigate the prevalence of preeclampsia and eclampsia in Iran. These studies have yielded different results. This meta-analysis was aimed to estimate the prevalence of preeclampsia and eclampsia in Iran. ⋯ The preeclampsia prevalence had an increasing growth and the eclampsia prevalence had declining growth in recent years. In addition, despite many studies aimed the prevalence of preeclampsia and eclampsia in Iran, there is a significant variation between the results. So, it is difficult to give an exact estimation of the preeclampsia and eclampsia prevalence in Iran.
