Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to have great importance in cancer development and progression. However, the mechanism of lncRNAs in epithelial ovarian cancer remains unclear. In the present study, we aimed to explore the role of the lncRNA myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) in epithelial ovarian cancer tumorigenesis. ⋯ LncRNA MIAT was found to be a tumor oncogenic lncRNA in epithelial ovarian cancer tumorigenesis. LncRNA MIAT promoted cell proliferation and inhibited cell apoptosis by negative regulation of miR-330-5p in epithelial ovarian cancer cells. Our findings suggested that MIAT might act as a candidate prognostic biomarker and new therapeutic target for treating epithelial ovarian cancer patients.

The aim of the study was to confirm whether higher levels of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) and N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) are associated with mortality risk scores in severe septic patients with acute kidney injury (AKI). ⋯ In severe septic AKI patients, high levels of NGAL, KIM-1 and NAG are associated with mortality risk scores. Urinary NGAL, KIM-1 and NAG concentrations higher than 102.5 ng/ml, 7.3 ng/ml and 15.4 U/l respectively may be used to predict increased of death risk scores.

Emerging evidence has indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play vital roles in multiple myeloma (MM) development and progression. However, the underlying mechanism of PVT1 in MM remains unclear. ⋯ In the present study, we found that lncRNA PVT1 could promote MM cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis by inhibiting miR-203a expression. Therefore, PVT1 may represent a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of MM patients.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of pregabalin (PGB) on chondrocyte proliferation and collagen type II (COL2A1), hypoxia-inducible factor 1-α (HIF-1α), and chondroadherin (CHAD) gene expression in osteoarthritic chondrocytes. ⋯ Further studies need to be conducted with more participants to prove that there is a negative correlation between extracellular matrix formation and PGB administration. Our preliminary data show that even at low doses and over short-term administration, PGB may affect chondrocyte cells at the gene-expression level.

Viral infections are considered the most frequent cause of myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). ⋯ A decrease in the number of positive PCR findings in control endomyocardial biopsy was observed. Viral genome persistence was not associated with worse outcome in short-term follow-up.
