Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory disease causing symmetric polyarthritis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of infliximab (INF) and methotrexate (MTX) on apoptosis, oxidative stress, and calcium signaling in the neutrophils of RA patients. ⋯ Our results suggest that INF and MTX are useful antagonists in apoptosis and mitochondrial oxidative stress in the neutrophils of RA patients. INF and MTX decreased the Ca2+ concentration through inhibition of the TRPM2 channel in the neutrophils of RA patients. It may be a new pathway in the mechanisms of anti-rheumatic drugs.

The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate the technical features, efficacy, accuracy, and relevant complications of computed tomography-guided biopsies in various anatomical localizations when diagnosing indolent lymphoma transformations, relapses, duplicate malignant diseases or benign processes. ⋯ Percutaneous CT guided biopsy performed in patients with a history of indolent lymphoma had high accuracy in establishing the correct diagnosis regarding transformation, relapse, duplicate malignancy or a benign process. Simultaneously, the complication rate was low.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a kind of malignant brain tumor prevalent in adults, with the characteristics well adapted to poorly immunogenic and hypoxic conditions. Effective treatment of GBM is impeded due to the high proliferation, migration and invasion of GBM cells. GBM cells migrate by degrading the extracellular matrix, so it is difficult to have GBM cells eradicated completely by surgery. This study aims to confirm that miR-431-5p could influence the proliferation, invasion and migration of human glioblastoma multiforme cells by targeting EPB41L1 (erythrocyte membrane protein band 4.1). ⋯ MiR-431-5p facilitated the progression of GBM by inhibiting EPB41L1 expression.

Neointimal hyperplasia due to smooth muscle cell migration and proliferation, as well as extracellular matrix accumulation, plays an important role in stenosis and restenosis that develop after reconstructive vascular interventions. Various agents are being tested to reduce neointimal hyperplasia and to prevent lumen stenosis. In the present study, the effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on intimal hyperplasia and endothelial hyperplasia after carotid anastomosis was investigated in a rabbit model. ⋯ We believe that vascular anastomosis and post-intervention NAC administration will prolong vascular patency by reducing intimal hyperplasia and providing vascular remodeling.

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is characterized by a worse prognosis than other breast cancer subtypes. TNBC is defined by lack of expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate the relationship between immunohistochemical expression of novel prognostic markers (erythropoietin (EPO) and erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R)) and clinicopathological features of TNBC and non-TNBC patients. ⋯ The relationship between the expression of EPO-R and histological malignancy grade in triple negative breast cancer, suggests that the present EPO-R expression in TNBC may constitute an additional prognostic factor.
