The present work describes the green synthesis and characterization and cytotoxicity, antioxidant, and anti-human lung cancer activities of silver nanoparticles containing Curcumae kwangsiensis folium leaf aqueous extract. ⋯ After confirming the above results in the clinical trial research, this formulation can be administered to treat human lung cancers in humans.

The successful introduction of immune checkpoint blockade approaches to renal-cell carcinoma (RCC) treatment indicates the importance of molecules regulating the T cell response to RCC risk and progression. ⋯ Our results indicate for the first time that genetic variation within the gene encoding BTLA is significantly associated with overall survival in clear cell renal cell carcinoma patients.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is widely used to induce experimental animals. However, its effects on cardiac contraction is controversial. Although LPS probably induces its influence in vivo both directly and indirectly, we focused on the direct effects of LPS in this report. ⋯ In contrast to the isolated hearts, LPS activated hypertrophic signals prior to apoptotic signals in cardiac cells. Thus, LPS injury appears to be associated with CaSR, which was not markedly influenced by an inflammasome inhibitor.

The survival outcome of lung cancer patients with end-stage renal disease has been poorly studied in the literature. In this study, we evaluated the effect of end-stage renal disease on lung cancer survival. ⋯ In our limited experience, the survival for lung cancer with ESRD is not inferior to lung cancer patients without ESRD. The reasons for poor survival for the WITH-ESRD medical treatment group and late diagnosis despite frequent medical visits merit further investigation.

The most common cause of death in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is respiratory failure, often in the period of 2-5 years, with a small percentage of patients surviving up to 10 years or more. The aim of the study was to evaluate the significance of pulmonary function tests in prediction of mortality and definition of indications for noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV). ⋯ Our study points to the significance of timely application and early start of NIMV in patients with ALS as an important approach to defer functional impairment, which would mean that the criteria, in our country, for application of these devices must be changed, not only regarding the value of current functional diagnostic tests used in everyday practice in patients with ALS but also in regard to the introduction of new diagnostic tests, such as sniff nasal inspiratory pressure and/or polysomnographic testing.
