The impact of remote monitoring (RM) on clinical outcomes in heart failure (HF) patients with cardiac resynchronisation therapy-defibrillator (CRT-D) implantation is controversial. This study sought to evaluate the performance of an RM follow-up protocol using modified criteria of the PARTNERS HF trial in comparison with a conventional follow-up scheme. ⋯ Follow-up of CRT-D patients using automatic RM with daily transmissions based on modified PARTNERS HF criteria enabled more effective ambulatory interventions leading indirectly to improved CV survival. Moreover, RM directly decreased the number of HF hospitalizations and ambulatory follow-up burden compared to CRT-D patients with conventional follow-up.

Thyroid cancers are the most common malignancy of the endocrine system. Increasing evidence has suggested potential roles for cancer susceptibility candidate 15 (CASC15) in thyroid cancer. Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) accounts for 80% of thyroid cancer, posing a great threat to public health. The present study aims to investigate the potential roles of CASC15 in PTC. ⋯ Downregulated CASC15 inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of thyroid cancer. Therefore, CASC15 may be an oncogene in thyroid cancer and may serve as a target marker for the treatment of thyroid cancer.

STAT4 is a transcriptional regulator that has been reported to have oncogenic activities in various cancers. In our study, the posttranscriptional regulatory effect of miR-200a-3p on STAT4 and the prognostic significance of miR-200a-3p and STAT4 were evaluated in bladder cancer (BCa). ⋯ The miR-200a-3p/STAT4 signaling cascade plays an important role in the progression of BCa, which provides a new promising target for targeted BCa therapies.

Derangements in monoaminergic transmission in the substantia nigra with disturbed signaling in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis are the major characteristics of Parkinson's disease (PD). It has been reported that the administration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is in practice to treat PD because of its redundant nature in regulating various neuronal signals. Hence, the current investigation was performed to evaluate the hypothesis that H2S might exert protective action via the inhibition of epigenetic histone acetylation. ⋯ Diversely, H2S exposure reversed these alterations with reduced HDAC activity. Further, PD rats treated with HDAC inhibitor showed a dramatic upsurge in the level of tyrosine hydroxylase, with a decreased level of glial fibrillary acidic protein, α-synuclein, tumor necrosis factor α, and other cytokines. Thus the results of the study suggest that H2S exerts protection via inhibition of HDAC.

Statins are inhibitors of β-hydroxy β-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase (HMGCR). They are used in patients with cardiovascular risk and/or suffering with cardiovascular disease. ⋯ The focus of this review is to highlight the role of statins in modulating the function and differentiation of various blood cells. Given the proposed wider application of these medicines and their potentially important advantages in treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, more studies are needed with special focus on the molecular targets of statins included in regulating the immune response.
