Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) is a rare and sporadic form of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), characterized by elevated pulmonary arterial resistance leading to right heart failure. However, molecular mechanisms of PAH development are still not completely understood. ⋯ Notably, 6 of these lncRNAs were associated with modules characterized by the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway and chemokine signaling pathway, suggesting that these lncRNAs may promote the occurrence of IPAH via participating in the pro-inflammatory pathways. In conclusion, our systematic analysis not only improved our understanding of the molecular mechanism, but also provided potential lncRNA biomarkers for further research.

Obesity is one of the most burdensome health problems and is closely linked to leptin resistance. The study examined whether an alternate-day high-fat diet (ADF) and/or GLP-1 agonist (exenatide) modulate brain leptin resistance caused by a high-fat diet (HFD). ⋯ In HFD caloric consumption, a combination of ADF and GLP-1 agonist enhances the brain leptin anorexigenic effect with the improvement of the metabolic sequelae of hyperinsulinemia, hyperlipidemia and liver steatosis.

Bergamot and opuntia (prickly pear cladodes) standardized extracts have been demonstrated to have positive metabolic effects in preclinical and clinical models. ⋯ the tested nutraceutical compound based on a flavonoid complex from bergamot and opuntia showed a short-term positive impact on plasma lipids, fasting plasma glucose, and liver enzyme in overall healthy subjects affected by hypercholesterolaemia with low cardiovascular risk.

Sarcoidosis is a disease that results from a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Its genetic basis however, is yet to be clarified. The purpose of this study is to determine whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the B-cell activating factor (BAFF) and its receptor (BAFF-R) are associated with sarcoidosis. ⋯ Taken together, the results of this study suggest a possible relationship between BAFF SNPs, rs1041569 and rs9514828, and BAFF-R SNP rs61756766 with sarcoidosis susceptibility and their potential as biomarkers for the disease.

The purpose of our research was to find out patients' preferences concerning their doctors' attitudes and behaviour as they deliver bad news to them. ⋯ The doctor-patient relationship when an unfavourable diagnosis is being communicated is an important aspect, which defines the way people who participate in this difficult situation behave and communicate. Doctors' behaviour during DBN should meet the patients' expectations. Such an attitude guarantees trust towards doctors and results in more positive evaluations on them. Most importantly, it translates directly into the patients' therapeutic behaviours and treatment effects.
