Non-invasive tests that may improve clinical evaluation of pulmonary hypertension (PH) are needed. The purpose of this study was to assess the role of soluble ST2 (sST2) in patients with PH. ⋯ sST2 seems to be a marker of poor clinical prognosis in patients with PH.

The aim of the study was to compare the Quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment tools (qSOFA), and Quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment-Lactate (LqSOFA) to detect pre-hospital sepsis among patients with or without suspicion of infection. ⋯ An appropriate strategy for reducing the morbidity and mortality from sepsis must necessarily include the prompt identification of this time-dependent pathology by using all the tools at our disposal. The qSOFA and LqSOFA can be used in the prehospital environment and help the diagnosis of suspected sepsis in patients with medical pathology, highlighting the predictive capacity of LqSOFA in the group of patients with suspected infection.

All recent guidelines on cardiovascular prevention have highlighted the role of a healthy diet and lifestyle advocating an holistic approach to reduce the cardiovascular burden among the population. Despite these efforts, registries have reported that only a minority of healthcare professionals provide advice on diet and lifestyle, and, in most cases, counseling is suboptimal for several reasons. Cardiovascular benefits linked to lifestyle and nutrition seem to be underestimated by many patients and doctors. This overview aims to summarize well-established benefits related to lifestyle and nutrition, discuss the current debates in this field in order to improve awareness among the medical community and promote better implementation of non-pharmaceutical measures to prevent the occurrence of atherothrombotic events, by reducing cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity.

There is a growing body of evidence supporting the role of customized growth charts in improving detection of fetal growth restriction (FGR) and decreasing false positive diagnoses. The aim of the study is to produce a customised birthweight standard for Poland. ⋯ The analysis confirmed the physiological variables that affect birthweight in studies from other countries and was able to quantify additional pathological factors of high maternal age and pregnancy-induced hypertension. Comparison with the Fenton standard showed that adverse outcomes associated with SGA birthweight are better identified by the customised standard in a Polish population.

In this study, we investigated the clinical value of using urothelial cancer-associated 1 (UCA1) and microRNA-16 (miR-16) as biomarkers for the diagnosis of pre-eclampsia (PE). Also, we compared the diagnostic values of miR-16, UCA1 and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) in PE. Furthermore, we investigated the interaction between miR-16 and UCA1/PAPP-A. ⋯ Taken together, the evidence suggests that UCA1 could be used as a more valuable biomarker in the diagnosis of PE. Meanwhile, the reduced expression of UCA1 could exert a positive effect by reducing the expression of PAPP-A in the pathogenesis of PE.
