Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a prevalent inflammatory disease that can lead to severe abdominal pain and multiple organ failure, potentially resulting in pancreatic necrosis and persistent dysfunction. A nomogram prediction model was developed to accurately evaluate the prognosis and provide therapy guidance to AP patients. ⋯ Our novel nomogram is a simple tool for accurately predicting IHM in ICU patients with AP. Treatment methods that enhance the factors involved in the model may contribute to increased in-hospital survival for these ICU patients.

Pediatric transplantation is an extremely complex and emotionally difficult area of pediatric medicine. The process of obtaining a pediatric donor by the staff is an extremely delicate topic, and for the family of the deceased child, often an unimaginable and painful process. The aim of the study was to analyze parents' opinions on pediatric transplantology. Methods: The research survey method was applied using an original survey questionnaire made available electronically using a Google form. The group analyzed included 203 respondents. ⋯ There is a need for social education in the field of pediatric transplantation and to facilitate access to professional psychological care for pediatric patients and/or their caregivers.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a leading cause of kidney failure. Lysozyme (LYZ) is an essential component of innate immunity and exhibits antibacterial properties. However, LYZ has been reported to induce nephropathy, implying a possible association between impaired renal function and lysozyme expression. ⋯ Lysozyme promotes kidney fibrosis via the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway in diabetic nephropathy, and glucose may promote fibroblast proliferation by promoting LYZ auto-secretion.

Sleep disorders can develop as a result of exposure to stressors. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic was an additional source of stress for paramedics, due to the fear of the unknown nature of the new pathogen. The main aim of this study was to identify factors influencing the development of sleep disorders among paramedics working during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ The main factors influencing the development of sleep disorders were female gender, use of sleep aids and not having a life partner. In contrast, older age and longer job tenure, being married, and having good relationships with family members had a protective effect.

In this retrospective study, the authors evaluated whether obesity-induced immunomodulation impacts the expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-1L) in lung cancer cells. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed. The study included 67 patients. The data did not have a normal distribution. ⋯ Apart from the above, the authors did not find any statistically significant correlation between PD-1L expression on lung cancer cells and body mass index, either in the whole group or in histological subgroups.
