MicroRNAs (miRs) are small noncoding RNAs which are regulators of gene expression and also regulate the genes in heart tissues. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of miRs on the expression level of myosin heavy chain (MHC), which is responsible for regulation of cardiac functions in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes and mice. ⋯ The findings of the present study indicated that miR-29a modulates expression of α-the MHC gene by targeting TR-β1 in cardiac cells. The study may provide a new direction for treating cardiac failure and cardiac hypertrophy.

Impairments in wound healing commonly occur among patients with diabetes. Herbal medicines have a long history of usage in wound care management. Super green (SG) is a newly discovered natural product obtained from Musa paradisiaca. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of the topical application of SG in healing surgical wounds in diabetic rats. ⋯ These results show that the most therapeutically efficacious concentration of SG (1/6000 dilution) can enhance wound repair in diabetic rats. SG has the potential to be a new treatment strategy for diabetic wounds.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is associated with lack of expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors and HER2 and is the subgroup of breast cancers with the worst prognosis. Osteopontin is a phosphorylated glycoprotein whose overexpression may occur in pathological states such as cancers. The main purpose of our study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of osteopontin in connection with the analysis of recognized clinical and pathological prognostic factors in primary sites of TNBC with and without lymph node metastases. ⋯ There is a correlation between osteopontin expression and the presence of lymph node metastases in TNBC, suggesting that osteopontin plays an important role in the invasiveness of TNBC.

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a leading cause of deaths induced by cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of emodin in CHF rats and explore the related mechanisms. ⋯ All the results indicated that emodin serves a protective role in CHF via regulation of the miR-26b-5p/PTEN pathway. Emodin may be an effective therapeutic agent for CHF treatment.

Primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by dryness of the eyes and mouth. The histological feature is mononuclear cell infiltration in exocrine glands, primarily salivary and lachrymal glands. As the disease progresses, some other tissues and organs may be involved and extraglandular manifestations ensue. ⋯ In addition, modulation of T cell function with abatacept ameliorates the severity of pSS. Furthermore, clinical trials to inhibit important cytokines involved in its formation have been carried out. In this article, we summarize and compare current biological therapies in order to find new and effective treatments for pSS.
