Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are two major medical conditions that constitute a significant financial burden on most healthcare systems. Due to AD sharing "insulin resistance" mechanistic features with DM, some scientists have proposed "type 3 DM" terminology for it. This study aims to compare the prophylactic effect of exercise and metformin on cognitive brain functions in rats with type 3 DM. ⋯ We can conclude that exercise can be as effective as metformin regarding prophylaxis against the deleterious effects of type 3 DM on cognitive brain functions.

Therapies targeting histone deacetylase (HDAC) have gained wider attention in the treatment of various clinical conditions. However, the use of HDAC inhibitors in pre-clinical trials in the case of Parkinson's disease (PD) is very limited. In the present study, the HDAC inhibitor, entinostat, was tested in animals induced with Parkinson's disease experimentally. ⋯ The study results suggest that inhibition of HDAC systematically improves the neurological functions, and hence treatments, emphasizing that HDACI, as the speculated mechanism, will be a promising mode of treatment in PD.

To elucidate the candidate biomarkers involved in the pathogenesis process of heart failure (HF) via analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of the dataset from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). ⋯ The hub genes GAPDH, GALM1, MMP9, CCL5, and GNAL2 were significantly increased in HF. miRNA-605-5p, miRNA-147a, and miRNA-671-5p were predicted as the drug target-interacted gene-miRNA of HF.

The emergence of a new and highly pathogenic coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Wuhan (China) and its spread worldwide has resulted in enormous social and economic losses. Amongst many proteins encoded by the SARS-CoV-2 genome, the main protease (Mpro) or chymotrypsin-like cysteine protease (3CLpro) and papain-like protease (PLpro) serve as attractive drug targets. ⋯ This study's outcome may support application of proanthocyanidin and rhapontin as a scaffold to build more potent inhibitors with desirable drug-like properties. However, it requires further validation by in vitro and in vivo studies.

The study aimed to measure telomeres length (TL) and telomerase expression in normal endometrium and endometrial hyperplasia and cancer. ⋯ Telomere extension in endometrial cancer is mediated by telomerase, but telomere length may not be an indicator of endometrioid cancer development.
