Over the past 50 years, the rise in obesity has prompted a search for new treatments. Intragastric injections of botulinum toxin A (BT-A), a safer alternative to surgery, show promise in reducing weight and caloric intake by inducing early satiety. This study examines their efficacy for weight loss. ⋯ Our study suggested that intragastric BT-A injections in the antrum and fundus are effective and safe for satiety and weight loss, with few side effects. Individual responses vary, and diet adherence is crucial. More studies are needed to assess the treatment's efficacy in obesity.

Airway infections represent one of the most common causes of mortality worldwide. The authors sought to describe patients hospitalized for lung and mediastinum abscesses in Poland from 2009 to 2016. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first evaluation of the disease in Poland. ⋯ Presented recent data on lung and mediastinum abscesses in Poland may be helpful in comparative analyses among European countries.

The purpose of this study was to explore the regulatory mechanisms of FGF2 in carotid atherosclerotic plaque development using bioinformatics analysis. ⋯ CNN1 might cooperate with FGF2 to regulate smooth muscle contractility during CAP formation. VAV3 might cooperate with FGF2 to be responsible for the development of CAP through participating in platelet activation. Hsa-miR-15a-5p and hsa-miR-16-5p might participate in the development of CAP via regulating FGF2.

Uterine fibroids (UFs) are benign tumors of the female reproductive system originating from the smooth muscle of the uterus. Currently, progesterone is known to play a key role in the differentiation of the myometrial tissue to form UFs and their abnormal growth. The mechanism of action of progesterone in UF tumorigenesis involves its effect on increasing the concentrations and dysregulation of selected growth factors. ⋯ No significant differences were found between TNF-α concentrations in the serum of patients with UFs treated with UPA, and patients without UPA treatment. In addition, our data analysis did not show significant differences in the concentrations of IGF-1 and PAI-1 between patients with UFs and the control group. Further studies on the dependence of specific symptoms on selected growth factors are mandatory.

The present study evaluated whether adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are significantly and independently associated with six key outcomes in the Polish general population: (1) lifetime suicide attempt, (2) self-mutilation, (3) potential problem drinking, (4) use of street drugs, (5) visiting a psychologist/psychotherapist, and (6) visiting a psychiatrist. We also investigated whether ACEs explain a significant proportion of variability in generalized self-efficacy. ⋯ The present study identified a strong association between childhood adversity and increased likelihood of lifetime self-mutilation, potential problem drinking, visiting a psychologist/psychotherapist, and visiting a psychiatrist. Generalized self-efficacy may be an important target for secondary intervention following childhood adversity.
