Recent studies have proved the diverse roles of miRs in different cancer-related processes. This study was undertaken to determine the therapeutic implications of miR-325-3p in breast cancer. ⋯ Taken together, the evidence shows that miR-325 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer and may be used in the treatment of breast cancer.

Neoadjuvant treatment in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) is intended to decrease the cancer mass, increase the likelihood of radical resection and improve survival. Resistance to chemotherapy may depend on cellular expression of anti-apoptotic proteins. XIAP and survivin are the most potent inhibitors of apoptosis (IAP), but their role in drug-induced cancer cell apoptosis remains unclear. This study was designed to evaluate the impact of pre-treatment expression of XIAP and survivin on pathological complete response and survival in LABC patients. ⋯ Our findings suggest that downregulation of XIAP and survivin in LABC patients might predict better treatment outcomes after anthracycline-based chemotherapy. This, in turn, may indicate XIAP and survivin proteins as potential targets for innovative anticancer therapies.

Since mammographic screening programmes were initiated, the spectrum of breast cancer has changed in terms of impalpable tumours, thus causing the development of new localisation methods, including magnetic markers. We offer herein an up-to-date review focused on two magnetic markers (Magseed, MaMaLoc) currently used in breast cancer surgery for the localisation of breast tumours or pathological axillary nodes. ⋯ The main benefits of magnetic markers are that they require no radiation safety measures, and they offer the possibility of longer deployment times, thus simplifying surgery scheduling. The most important drawbacks are cost of the system, depth limitation and need for frequent probe recalibration.

No survey has evaluated hypertensive heart disease (HHD) burden with statistics from the Risk Factors Study, Injuries, and the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) 2019. ⋯ The worldwide prevalence rate standardized by age increased during 1990-2019, especially in Andean Latin America, North Africa, the Middle East, and Western Sub-Saharan Africa. Future HHD prevention tactics should be focused on males, high-risk areas, and control of high BMI.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) on lung injury, the oxygenation index and perioperative pulmonary complications in elderly patients who underwent thoracotomy with one-lung ventilation (OLV). ⋯ In elderly patients, dexmedetomidine can reduce Qs/Qt and increase PaO2 during OLV in surgery. It can reduce lung injury. Moreover, DEX reduced respiratory and cardiovascular complications in the perioperative period.
