Previous studies have shown that lifestyle/environmental factors could accelerate the development of age-related hearing loss (ARHL). However, there has not yet been a study investigating the joint association among genetics, lifestyle/environmental factors, and adherence to healthy lifestyle for risk of ARHL. We aimed to assess the association between ARHL genetic variants, lifestyle/environmental factors, and adherence to healthy lifestyle as pertains to risk of ARHL. ⋯ Our findings of this study demonstrated a significant joint association between genetic and lifestyle factors regarding ARHL. In addition, our analysis suggested that lifestyle adherence in individuals with high genetic risk could reduce the risk of ARHL.

Mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) protects against streptozotocin-induced diabetic cardiomyopathy: role of GSK3β and mitochondrial function.
Mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) displays some promise in the protection against cardiovascular diseases although its role in diabetes has not been elucidated. ⋯ In summary, our data revealed that ALDH2 acted against diabetes-induced cardiac contractile and intracellular Ca2+ dysregulation, possibly through regulation of apoptosis, glycogen synthase kinase-3β activation and mitochondrial function independent of the global metabolic profile.

Therapeutic effect of nanoliposomal PCSK9 vaccine in a mouse model of atherosclerosis.
Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9) is an important regulator of low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and plasma levels of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C). PCSK9 inhibition is an efficient therapeutic approach for the treatment of dyslipidemia. We tested the therapeutic effect of a PCSK9 vaccine on dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis. ⋯ L-IFPTA+ vaccine could generate long-lasting, functional, and safe PCSK9-specific antibodies in C57BL/6 mice with severe atherosclerosis, which was accompanied by long-term therapeutic effect against hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis.
