This experimental study compared the hemostatic effects of calcium alginate and Anka-ferd Blood Stopper in hepatic parenchymal bleedings. ⋯ With this study, we demonstrated that both calcium alginate and Ankaferd have hemostatic effect in preventing hepatic parenchymal bleeding and that calcium alginate causes fibrosis in the liver, where ABS causes focal necrosis areas(Tab. 2, Fig. 4, Ref. 19).

Evaluation of preemptive dexketoprofen trometamol effect on blood chemistry, vital signs and postoperative pain in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy.
To investigate the postoperative analgesic effects of preemptive dexketoprofen trometamol in dogs subjected to ovariohysterectomy (OHE). ⋯ Stable vital signs with unchanged biochemical parameters on dexketoprofen administration are a promising finding. The clinical advantage shown by the pain scale difference and the low serum cortisol levels should qualify dexketoprofen for preemptive pain management in dogs (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 30).

The popularity of continuous caudal epidural block in post-operative analgesia in very young children has been growing. This method of analgesia is used in major abdominal and urological surgeries. A local anaesthetic, usually levobupivacaine, is administered through an epidural catheter introduced via hiatus canalis sacralis. ⋯ This catheter allows for the administration of caudal epidural analgesia even in premature children of approximately 500 g of body weight. This solution eliminates adverse effects of systemic opioid analgesia, accelerates surgical wound healing and disconnection from ventilation system, and improves the potential of enteral nutrition. Depth and quality of analgesia in very young children are monitored using a complex scheme called Comfort Neo Scale (Tab. 1, Fig. 2, Ref. 7).

This study evaluates the effects produced by H2S donor; sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS), in a renal ischemia/reperfusion (IR) rat model and assesses the possible mediating role of nitric oxide (NO) in these H2S' effects. ⋯ NaHS protects against the effects of renal IR injury by acting primarily through a decrease in both pro-inflammatory cytokines and iNOS expression as well as through up-regulation of the eNOS pathway. Furthermore, H₂S has a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic effects (Tab. 2, Fig. 6, Ref. 45).

Determine the prevalence and distribution of gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) in a large cohort of patients subjected to esophagogastroscopy (EGD). Evaluate usefulness of grading the severity of gastritis, GIM and the impact of Helicobacter pylori (HP). Define the population at risk for gastric adenocarcinoma (GC) and assess the value of surveillance. ⋯ Prevalence of GC in patients with GIM was more than 200 times higher than reported in normal population. Age more than 70 years and African Americans appeared to be at higher risk. Routine EGD and histological diagnosis, with simple grading of severity of epithelial changes provides a useful predictive information. Individuals with upper GI symptoms undergoing EGD with gastric biopsy benefited from routine clinical screening for GC. Patients with higher severity of GIM should enter surveillance (Tab. 1, Fig. 10, Ref. 45).
