Cisplatin is a widely used anticancer drug for the treatment of many solid cancers. DNA damage is thought to be the key mechanism of cisplatin's anticancer activity. However, cisplatin may also affect cellular metabolism. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cisplatin on the types of ATP production (OXPHOS versus glycolysis) and their rate in prostate cancer cells and to determine the potentially protective effect of autophagy and amino acids during cisplatin treatment. We also wanted to investigate the potential synergy between the metabolic effects of cisplatin on ATP production and the inhibition of autophagy. ⋯ Persistent defects of autophagy can affect the metabolic sensitivity of cancer cells due to interference with arginine metabolism. Amino acids contained in the culture medium had an impact on the overall effect of cisplatin (Fig. 3, Ref. 38).

We evaluated the relationship between NLR, PLR, and MPV values and scoring systems frequently used in intensive care units in our study. ⋯ In our study, a significant correlation was found between APACHE, GCS, SOFA, expected death rates and MPV and P/L rates. In conclusion, we suggest that in addition to intensive care scoring systems, the N/L ratio, P/L ratio, MPV, and CRP/albumin ratios can be used in the prognosis of patients (Tab. 5, Fig. 2, Ref. 18).

The poison ivy does not normally occur in Slovakia, like in the Czech Republic, but it can be introduced. The venom of the black widow spider is an effective weapon for capturing prey. ⋯ Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rapidly progressive soft tissue infection caused by fulminant tissue destruction with severe systemic toxicity and high mortality (Fig. 9, Ref. 16). Keywords: poisonous weaver, necrotizing fasciitis, streptococcus pyogenes, latrodectism, multiorgan failure.

This study aimed to predict individual COVID-19 patient prognosis at hospital admission using artificial intelligence (AI)-based quantification of computed tomography (CT) pulmonary involvement. ⋯ CT quantification of pulmonary involvement using AI-based software helps predict COVID-19 patient outcomes (Tab. 4, Fig. 4, Ref. 38).

Comparative Study
Neuroendoscopy-assisted evacuation for supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage versus conventional craniotomy: A comparative analysis of efficacy and outcome.
The endoscopic-assisted approach for intracerebral hemorrhage minimizes traumatization of the brain and allows direct access to hematoma. The study aimed to compare the results of the endoscopic-assisted evacuation for supratentorial hemorrhage versus conventional craniotomy. ⋯ The endoscopic-assisted evacuation of supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage is becoming preferred because of its efficacy, a small number of complications, and minor trauma for the patient (Tab. 1, Fig. 3, Ref. 16).
