This study conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on longitudinal CSF t-tau and genotype data from 319 non-Hispanic Caucasians within the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) cohort. The aim was to identify genetic determinants influencing the rate of change in CSF t-tau, a key biomarker in AD. ⋯ These findings not only enhance our understanding of t-tau's progression in AD but also suggest that these identified SNPs could serve as novel genetic biomarkers, potentially providing novel insights in the prognostic landscape of AD by refining the predictive value of CSF-tau measurements (Tab. 2, Fig. 2, Ref. 31). The aim of the presented study was to determine the distribution of HBV genotypes and their influence on selected parameters in patients in eastern Slovakia. ⋯ This is the first HBV genotypes study from Slovakia. We suggest that HBV genotypes may play a role in the virus-host relationship Keywords: chronic hepatitis B, genotypes, hepatitis B virus, prognostic factors, distribution.

Toxoplasma gondii infection in pregnant women could lead to significant changes during the pregnancy, affect the outcomes of pregnancy and the timing of labour. Small‑for‑gestational‑age (SGA) newborns are defined by birthweight below the 10th percentile for gestational age. We tested an association between latent toxoplasmosis in pregnant women and deliveries of SGA babies. ⋯ Pregnant women with latent toxoplasmosis giving birth at ≥ 37 weeks of gestation have a 1.567 times higher risk of delivering an SGA baby (Tab. 2, Fig. 1, Ref. 30).

Patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have long been considered unsuitable candidates for solid organ transplantation due to their poor prognosis. After the introduction of combination antiretroviral therapy, the survival of this group of patients improved significantly. HIV positive patients had been successfully transplanted for the last 18 years. ⋯ The procedure was possible due to a change in legislation, as HIV positivity was an absolute contraindication for transplantation in Slovakia until October 2023. The aim of our case report is to draw attention to the possibility of kidney transplantation in an HIV positive patient and to the specific problems related to the preparation of an HIV positive patient for transplantation, post-transplant complications and the possibilities of their management (Fig. 6, Ref. 37). Keywords: kidney transplantation, HIV, human immunodeficiency virus, acute rejection, HAART, drug interaction.

Several studies have investigated independently of clinical education, it has been emphasized that students experience fear, anxiety, sadness and uncertainty during the pandemic. ⋯ The level of COVID-19 fear of midwifery students who did clinical internships during the pandemic negatively affected their anxiety and self-confidence levels (Tab. 4, Ref. 34). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: pandemic, midwifery, fear of COVID-19, anxiety, self-confidence.
