Hypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease. This review examines the literature on hypertension control in the Czech Republic from 1972 to 2022 addressing limited data on its effectiveness. ⋯ Hypertension treatment success rate in the Czech Republic improved significantly over the last 50 years and is currently comparable to that of other European countries with similar healthcare resources. However, it still remains suboptimal and lags behind the countries with the most successful treatment outcomes (Tab. 3, Fig. 1, Ref. 37). The disorders of temporomandibular joint manifest clinically with disruptions in its movement and facial pain. Women exhibit a three-fold higher propensity for developing temporomandibular joint disorders compared to men. There are several studies describing the effects of female reproductive hormones on temporomandibular joint structures and pain perception, shedding light on the genetic influence underlying these conditions. ⋯ Specifically, we advocate for heightening the emphasis on young women diagnosed with temporomandibular joint disorders during their reproductive years, as such manifestation could potentially serve as early indicators of other underlying health conditions linked to the reproductive system. We posit that genetic studies hold promise as a cornerstone for tailoring personalized treatment strategies for TMJD in the future (Tab. 1, Ref. 46). Mitochondria are subcellular organelles involved in many metabolic events, including oxidative phosphorylation and signaling in tissue-specific processes. They play a key role in cell proliferation, differentiation and death. ⋯ Mitochondrial dysfunction can be positively influenced by administration of antioxidants, including coenzyme Q10 (Tab. 1, Fig. 5, Ref. 20). Text in PDF www.elis.sk Keywords: mitochondria, immunopathogenesis, bronchial asthma, chronic hepatitis C, reactive oxidative species, antioxidants, coenzyme Q10.

Deviations in haemostasis are found in about 50 % of patients with cancer and up to 90% of those with metastatic disease. Many studies investigate the dynamics of the processes of coagulation and fibrinolysis and their role as a predictor of therapeutic response, early relapse, or metastasis risk. ⋯ Ongoing research on uPA and cancer will enrich our knowledge and expand the possibilities for clinical utilization of the marker in the oncology setting (Tab. 2, Ref. 18).

Standard endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) is sometimes the only treatment option for patients with hostile aortic neck anatomy, but it carries an increased risk of both early and late procedure-related complications. The aim of this study was to report on single-center experience with the Heli-FX EndoAnchors (Medtronic, Santa Rosa, CA) as an adjunctive procedure to endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for prevention and perioperative treatment of proximal neck complications in patients with hostile neck anatomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single-centre, retrospective study evaluating 24 consecutive patients treated with EndoAnchors during the index EVAR procedure between November 2018 and August 2021. EndoAnchor implantation was indicated for cases with hostile proximal aortic neck anatomy characterised by the presence of at least one of the following parameters: length of 28 mm, angle of >60°, circumferential thrombus/calcification involving ≥50%, and reverse taper. ⋯ The use of EndoAnchors during the index EVAR procedure in cases with challenging aortic neck anatomy with or without perioperative type Ia endoleak was associated with good midterm results and led to sac regression in most of the patients (Tab. 4, Fig. 3, Ref. 31).
