Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels at delivery and postpartum ALT flares among women with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Methods: Pregnant women with CHB from November 2008 to November 2017 were included in this retrospective study. Multivariable logistic regression analysis and a generalized additive model were performed to determine both linear and nonlinear relationships between ALT levels at delivery and postpartum ALT flares. ⋯ The relationship followed an inverted U-shaped curve. Conclusions: The ALT level at delivery was positively correlated with postpartum ALT flares in women with CHB when the ALT level was less than 182.8 U/L. The ALT cutoff (19 U/L) at delivery was more sensitive to predict the risk of ALT flares postpartum.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common acute abdominalgia of the digestive tract. When the disease progresses to severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), the complications and mortality rate greatly increase. Determining the key factors and pathways underlying AP and SAP will help elucidate the pathological processes involved in disease progression and will be beneficial for identifying potential therapeutic targets. ⋯ Integrative proteomics and phosphoproteomics analyses revealed 985 jointly detected proteins in the comparison of AP and normal samples, 911 proteins in the comparison of SAP and normal samples, and 910 proteins in the comparison of SAP and AP samples. Based on proteomics and acetylation proteomics analyses, we found that 984 proteins were jointly detected in the comparison of AP and normal samples, 990 proteins in SAP and normal samples, and 728 proteins in SAP and AP samples. Thus, our study offers a valuable resource to understand the proteomic and protein modification atlas in AP.

Background: Targeted therapy of Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) related plexiform neurofibroma (pNF) aiming at MEK molecule has not demonstrated a convincing result for complete disease inhibition, probably due to other signal pathways crosstalk. Our previous study revealed an increased nuclear translocation of YAP molecule in NF1 related pNF. Herein, we decided to further investigate the therapeutic relations of YAP interference during the MEK treatment against NF1 related pNF. ⋯ Additionally, when combined treatments were performed based on verteporfin and selumetinib, synergistic effects were observed on cytotoxicity of NF1 related pNF tumor cells in vitro and in vivo xenograft models. Conclusion: YAP inhibition can effectively sensitize NF1 related pNF tumor cells to selumetinib. Dual targeting of YAP and MEK might be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating NF1 related pNF.

Characteristic of Apparent Diffusion Coefficient and Time Intensity Curve Analysis of Dynamic Contrast Enhanced MRI in Osteosarcoma Histopathologic Subtypes.
Background: According to WHO criteria, osteosarcoma (OS) consists of various histopathological subtypes. Thus, contrast-enhanced MRI is a very useful modality in the diagnosis and evaluation of osteosarcoma. Magnetic resonance imaging with dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE-MRI) studies was used to determine the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value and the slope of the time-intensity curve (TIC). ⋯ This study found a significant correlation between the mean of ADC value and the OS histopathologic results as well as the correlation between the mean of ADC value and ME. Conclusion: The various types of osteosarcoma have a characteristic of radiological appearances which may similar to some bone tumor entities. The analysis of ADC values and TIC curves using % slope and ME of osteosarcoma subtypes can improve the accuracy of diagnosis as well as the monitoring of the treatment response and the disease progression.

This study aimed to investigate the possible association between nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and following open angle glaucoma (OAG). A retrospective research applying the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan was conducted with a follow up period from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2016. There were 4184 and 16736 participants that selected and categorized into the NPC and non-NPC groups after exclusion. ⋯ Besides, the cumulative probability of OAG was significantly higher in the NPC group than that in the non-NPC population (p = 0.0041). About other risk factor for OAG, age older than 40 years old, diabetes mellitus and persistent steroid usage were related to OAG occurrence (all p < 0.05). In conclusion, the NPC may be an independent risk factor of following OAG development.
