Effect of 10 Minutes of Prewarming and Prewarmed Intravenous Fluid Administration on the Core Temperature of Patients Undergoing Transurethral Surgery under General Anesthesia.
Background: Patients undergoing transurethral urologic procedures using bladder irrigation are at increased risk of perioperative hypothermia. Thirty minutes of prewarming prevents perioperative hypothermia. However, its routine application is impractical. ⋯ Change in core temperature was 0.93 ± 0.3 °C and 0.55 ± 0.4 °C in the control group and prewarming group, respectively (P = 0.0001). Thermal comfort was better in the prewarming group (P = 0.004). Conclusions: Ten minutes of prewarming combined with warmed intravenous fluid significantly decreased the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia and resulted in better thermal comfort in patients undergoing transurethral urologic surgery under general anesthesia.

Oral cancer is the most heterogeneous cancer at clinical and histological levels. PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway was identified as one of the most commonly modulated signals in oral cancer, which regulates major cellular and metabolic activity of the cell. ⋯ This review sheds light on the regulation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR, and its role in controlling autophagy and associated apoptosis during the progression and metastasis of oral squamous type of malignancy (OSCC). In addition, we reviewed in detail the upstream activators and the downstream effectors of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling as potential therapeutic targets for oral cancer treatment.

This comprehensive review delves into the pivotal role of mitochondria in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, a significant complication limiting the clinical use of this potent anthracycline chemotherapeutic agent. Doxorubicin, while effective against various malignancies, is associated with dose-dependent cardiotoxicity, potentially leading to irreversible cardiac damage. The review meticulously dissects the molecular mechanisms underpinning this cardiotoxicity, particularly focusing on mitochondrial dysfunction, a central player in this adverse effect. ⋯ The review underscores the promising results from preclinical studies while advocating for more extensive clinical trials to validate these approaches in human patients. In conclusion, this review offers valuable insights into the intricate relationship between mitochondrial dysfunction and doxorubicin-mediated cardiotoxicity. It underscores the need for continued research into targeted mitochondrial therapies as a means to improve the cardiac safety profile of doxorubicin, thereby enhancing the overall treatment outcomes for cancer patients.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the role of plasma cytokine detection in endometrial cancer screening and tumor progression assessment in patients with abnormal uterine bleeding. Methods: In this multicenter retrospective cohort study of 287 patients with abnormal uterine bleeding, comprehensive clinical information and laboratory assessments, including cytokines, routine blood tests, and tumor markers, were performed. Associations between the clinical indicators and endometrial carcinogenesis/progression were evaluated. ⋯ Similarly, combining IL-6, IL-8, and Monocyte counts enhanced the accuracy of assessing endometrial cancer risk with deep myometrial invasion. The area under curve of the model is 0.753. Conclusions: Cytokines such as IL-4, IL-8, and IL-6 can serve as markers for monitoring endometrial cancer and its progression in women with abnormal uterine bleeding.

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is a type of death that occurs suddenly and without any apparent explanation, affecting infants between 28 days of life and up to a year. Recognition of this entity includes performing an autopsy to determine if there is another explanation for the event and performing both an external and internal examination of the different tissues to search for possible histopathological findings. ⋯ For all these reasons, this paper aims to summarize the most relevant current knowledge of SIDS, exploring from the base the characterization and recognition of this condition, its forensic findings, its risk factors, and the main prevention measures to be implemented. Likewise, an attempt will be made to analyze the causes and pathological mechanisms associated with SIDS, as well as potential approaches and future paths that must be followed to reduce the impact of this condition.
