To determine the association between amiodarone or lidocaine and outcomes in adult in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) with shock-refractory ventricular fibrillation (VF) or pulseless ventricular tachycardia (pVT). ⋯ For patients with IHCA and shock-refractory VF/pVT, the adoption of an amiodarone-first strategy seemed to be associated with the termination of VF/pVT using fewer shocks. Nonetheless, because of the small sample size, additional large-scale studies should be conducted to investigate whether this advantage could be translated into a long-term benefit in survival or neurological outcomes.

Randomized controlled clinical effectiveness of adjunct 660-nm light-emitting diode irradiation during non-surgical periodontal therapy.
The irradiation of 660-nm light-emitting diodes (LEDs) has exhibited potential to accelerate oral wound healing and prevent periodontal breakdown in rodents. This study was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of 660-nm LEDs during non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT). ⋯ LED light irradiation during or after scaling and root planing assisted in the recovery of periodontium and can be used as an adjunct treatment during NSPT, specifically for sites with severe periodontal breakdown.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation may occur in >10% of patients with lymphoma and resolved HBV infection who undergo rituximab-containing chemotherapy. Preventive strategies may have marked impact on resource allocation in HBV endemic areas. This study aims to compare the cost-effectiveness between prophylactic antiviral therapy and HBV DNA monitoring for the prevention of HBV-related complications. ⋯ Identification of anti-HBs-negative subgroups is critical to improve the cost-effectiveness of prophylactic antiviral therapy in lymphoma patients with resolved HBV infection.

Dysphagia is a common and critical condition that occurs in Parkinson's disease (PD), and it may appear in early stages. However, few reliable swallowing-related questionnaires are currently available. Therefore, finding efficient questionnaires for surveying dysphagia during the early stages of PD is necessary. ⋯ The impaired MDADI for early-stage PD was determined, and decreased DL as a presentation of dysphagia could not be reflected by the MDADI. The MDADI may be used as a quick and convenient questionnaire for predicting the severity of early-stage PD, but not for the screening of early or subclinical dysphagia.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional constipation (FC) are highly prevalent in the general population and have significant symptom overlap, while the clinical associations and psychological links between IBS and FC remains poorly understood. We aimed to compare the clinical, metabolic and psychological factors between patients with FC patients and constipation predominated IBS. ⋯ Patients with FC and IBS-C shared many similar GI complaints and psychosocial characteristics, however IBS-C had more severe bloating, heartburn and depression and FC had worse sleeping quality.
