Randomized Controlled Trial
Ropeginterferon Alfa-2b administered every two weeks for patients with genotype 2 chronic hepatitis C.
Ropeginterferon alfa-2b is a novel mono-pegylated interferon that has only one major form as opposed to the 8 to 14 isomers of other on-market pegylated interferon products, allowing every-two-week injection with high tolerability. It received European Medicines Agency marketing authorization in 2019 and Taiwan Biologics License Applications Approval in 2020 for the treatment of polycythemia vera. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Ropeginterferon alfa-2b plus ribavirin in genotype 2 chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients. ⋯ Ropeginterferon alfa-2b, although at only half the number of injections, is as safe and effective as Peg-IFN-α2a for genotype 2 CHC. A phase 3 study to confirm safety and efficacy of Ropeginterferon alfa-2b in genotype 2 CHC is ongoing.

Comparing image qualities of dental cone-beam computed tomography with different scanning parameters for detecting root canals.
Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a useful device in creating 3-dimensional images in the examining area of dentistry and is one of the most common clinical methods in detecting second mesiobuccal (MB2) canals in maxillary molars. The aim of this in vitro study was to compare the image quality of the small field of view (FOV) CBCT with different rotation arcs and scanning speeds in the use of detecting root canals. ⋯ Slow-speed mode is inevitable in maintaining adequate image quality during taking CBCT. However, endodontists can use the half rotation mode to significantly reduce radiation dose, exposure time, and still maintain sufficient image quality for root canal anatomy assessment.

Genotype 2 (GT2) hepatitis C virus infection is the second common genotype in Taiwan. Real-world experience of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir (LDV/SOF) for GT2 infection is limited. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of LDV/SOF in patients with GT2 chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection. ⋯ Twelve weeks of LDV/SOF treatment provided an excellent and safe regimen for GT2 CHC infection, particularly in non-cirrhotic patients.

Splenic abscess is a life-threatening surgical emergency which requires early diagnosis and intervention to maximize patient outcomes. This can be achieved through accurate risk stratification in the emergency department (ED). Sarcopenia refers to an age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength that is accompanied by major physiologic and clinical ramifications, and often signifies decreased physiologic reserves. It is associated with poor clinical outcomes in sepsis, acute respiratory failure, oncological surgery, and liver transplantation. This study evaluates the utility of sarcopenia as a radiological stratification tool to predict in-hospital mortality of splenic abscess patients in the ED. This will assist emergency physicians, internists and surgeons in rapid risk stratification, assessing treatment options, and communicating with family members. ⋯ Sarcopenia is associated with poor prognoses of in-hospital mortality in patients with splenic abscess presenting to the ED. We recommend its use in the ED to rapidly risk stratify and predict outcome to guide treatment strategies.

Data on the efficacy and safety of balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) in Taiwanese patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) are lacking. In this study, we evaluated the effects of BPA on clinical parameters including hemodynamics, echocardiography and functional status in patients with inoperable CTEPH in Taiwan. ⋯ BPA improved both clinical symptoms and hemodynamic data in inoperable CTEPH Taiwanese patients without major periprocedural complications.
