While nocturia has been proposed to be related to various systemic diseases and even mortality, there has been little information of the impact of nocturia in other aspects of physical and mental well-being. We evaluated the impact of nocturia on quality of life (QoL), mental health, work limitation, and health-care seeking behavior. ⋯ Nocturia significantly affects QoL, work productivity, and mental well-being. However, healthcare utilization remains low and warrants increased awareness and education in the patients, caregivers and physicians.

Characteristics and outcomes of second cancers in patients with childhood cancer: A report from the Taiwan Pediatric Oncology Group.
Patients with childhood cancer are at increased risk for the development of second cancers. ⋯ Children who develop a second cancer have an unfavorable outcome. Early detection and improved treatment for second cancers are needed.

This study aimed to compare our experiences of nonintubated video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for pneumothorax and lung tumor resections with that of intubated VATS in pediatric patients. ⋯ Nonintubated VATS is feasible and safe in selected children undergoing bullectomy or wedge resections for lung tumors. The nonintubated approach might enhance postoperative recovery.

Long-term cognitive and multimodal imaging outcomes after carotid artery stenting vs intensive medication alone for severe asymptomatic carotid stenosis.
Severe carotid stenosis is associated with cognitive impairment, which may be attributed to asymptomatic microembolism and/or chronic hypoperfusion. We aim to evaluate the long-term cognitive and brain connectivity outcomes of carotid artery stenting (CAS) for asymptomatic ≥70% stenosis of the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA). ⋯ For asymptomatic extracranial carotid steno-occlusion, successful carotid revascularization in addition to intensive medical treatment may potentially benefit cognitive reserve and connectivity strength which are partly attributed to restoration of non-critical hypoperfusion.

Fontan operation is the standard surgical procedure for achieving long-term survival in single-ventricular complex congenital heart diseases (SV-CHD). We aim to identify the perioperative outcomes and impact of heterotaxy syndrome (HS) after Fontan operation in a tertiary pediatric cardiology center. ⋯ Surgical outcome has improved much in current era. Perioperative outcome is poorer in patients with HS than other SV-CHD, but HS is not a predictor of perioperative mortality after adjusting for hemodynamic factors.
