Few studies have compared intraoperative oxygenation and perioperative outcomes between non-intubated video-assisted thoracic surgery (NIVATS) with supraglottic airway devices (SADs) and NIVATS with high flow nasal oxygenation (HFNO). The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the intraoperative desaturation rate and postoperative outcomes between NIVATS with SADs and NIVATS with HFNO. ⋯ The rate of SAD use in NIVATS was twice the rate of HFNO use, especially for wedge resections. There is uncertain airway patency and limited flow through HFNO during one-lung ventilation, whereas SADs like i-gel™ presented a significantly less intraoperative desaturation rate over time and similar postoperative outcomes.

Osteopontin (OPN) is a noncollagenous matricellular protein which is mainly present in bone matrix. A high OPN level has been associated with heart failure and acute coronary syndrome, however data on patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) are lacking. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between OPN and the prognosis of Taiwanese patients with CCS. ⋯ OPN may be a potentially valuable biomarker in predicting CV outcomes. During 6 years of follow-up period, an OPN level >4810 pg/ml was associated with a significantly higher incidence of AMI-related hospitalization in CCS patients who received successful PCI before the enrollment.

Observational Study
Comparison of fatal traumatic medico-legal cases with postmortem computed tomography and autopsy: A pilot study in Taiwan.
In order to determine the performance of postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) in identifying traumatic-relevant macroscopic findings in medico-legal cases, this retrospective observational pilot study involving nine trauma casualties who had received PMCT prior to autopsy. The comparison of these findings in six anatomical regions as dictated in Injury Severity Score (ISS) were performed. 104 traumatic-relevant findings were identified with achievement of 51% congruent findings. PMCT and autopsy had additionally found 22 and 29 findings respectively. ⋯ It had excellent detection rate in abnormal air collection, fracture, foreign body localization, internal ballistic and intracranial pathology. However, the solid organ and vascular injuries as well as integumentary lesions were the major drawback. In conclusion, incorporation of PMCT to autopsy in medico-legal investigation helps to preserve the most abundant traumatic-relevant injuries compared to either modality.
