The use of tracheal implants for tracheal reconstruction remains a challenge in thoracic medicine due to the complex structure of the trachea in mammalian organisms, including smooth muscles, cartilage, mucosa, blood vessels, cilia, and other tissues, and the difficulty in achieving tracheal regeneration using implants from either allografts or synthetic biomaterials. ⋯ In this study, we grafted a decellularized porcine aorta into a recipient pig with a tracheal defect. We found cryopreservation of the allogeneic aorta transplantation was a feasible and safe method for the management of airway disease, and immunosuppressants were unnecessary during the treatment course.

In Taiwan, the prevalence of COVID-19 was low before April 2022. The low SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence in the population of Taiwan provides an opportunity for comparison with fewer confounding factors than other populations globally. Cycle threshold (Ct) value is an easily accessible method for modeling SARS-CoV-2 dynamics. In this study, we used clinical samples collected from hospitalized patients to explore the Ct value dynamics of the Omicron variant infection. ⋯ Our study demonstrated the primary viral infection dynamics of the Omicron variant in hospitalized patients. Vaccination significantly affected viral dynamics, and antiviral agents modified viral dynamics irrespective of vaccination status. In elderly individuals, viral clearance is slower than that in adults and children.

Prognostic value of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients receiving targeted temperature management: An observational cohort study.
Out-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. The magnitude of the post-resuscitation inflammatory response is closely related to the severity of the circulatory dysfunction. Currently, targeted temperature management (TTM) has become an essential part of the post-resuscitation care for unconscious OHCA survivors. Some novel prognostic inflammatory markers may help predict outcomes of OHCA patients after TTM. ⋯ Post-TTM NLR is a predictor of in-hospital mortality in OHCA patients who underwent TTM.
