The COVID-19 pandemic remains challenging due to the rapid evolution of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. This article discusses recent findings on high-risk groups for COVID-19 mortality and morbidity, along with consensus statements from the 2023 Taiwan Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (TAGG) meeting. It examines evidence on viral mutation mechanisms, emerging variants, and their implications for vaccination strategies. ⋯ Given ongoing viral evolution, proactive adjustment of vaccination policies is essential. Scientific consensus, tailored recommendations, and rapid knowledge dissemination are vital for optimizing COVID-19 protection among vulnerable groups in Taiwan. This article seeks to inform clinical practice and public health policy by summarizing expert-driven vaccination perspectives.

Immunotherapy is a new treatment option for patients with Lung Cancer (LC). However, relatively limited research has explored about patients' perception of hope and its associated factors during the process. This study aimed to examine level of perceived hope and the factors related to hope, with a particular focus on treatment and physically related factors, in LC patients receiving immunotherapy. ⋯ This study revealed that lung cancer patients undergoing immunotherapy had moderate level of hope. Patients' performance status, selected symptoms and times of receiving immunotherapy were the robust factors related to hope. Systematic assessment of patients' symptoms and the development of appropriate interventions to reduce distress and enhance hope are strongly recommended for both clinical care and research.

Ultrasonography is used to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) according to various criteria. This diagnostic meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasonography for diagnosing CTS, focusing on the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the median nerve (MN) at the inlet of the carpal tunnel and regional variations in diagnostic thresholds between Asian and non-Asian populations. ⋯ Ultrasonography is a reliable diagnostic method for CTS, with distinct optimal cutoff values observed between Asian and non-Asian populations. Therefore, population-specific diagnostic criteria for CTS are recommended.
