Direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) have revolutionized the paradigm for HCV treatment. However, patients with HBV and HCV co-infection receiving DAAs are at significant risk of HBV reactivation, with limited literature addressing the roles of serum chemokines/chemokines. We aimed to explore the profiles and predictive value of serum cytokines/chemokines regarding HBV reactivation in this clinical setting. ⋯ Higher serum TNF-alpha at baseline and lower IFN-gamma at week 4 were associated with mild clinical reactivation of HBV in patients with HBV/HCV co-infection receiving DAAs. Combination of these cytokines reliably predicted HBV reactivation early.

Periodontitis is a progressive inflammation condition and a primary cause of tooth loss in adults. As one of the abundant cell types in the periodontium, periodontal ligament fibroblasts (PDLFs) play an integral role in the maintenance and regeneration of periodontal tissue. ⋯ Our results showed that the cell proliferation, transwell migration, invasion, and wound healing capacities were all upregulated in PDLFs with the ectopic expression of galectin-7. These results suggest that therapeutic approaches to enhance the expression of galectin-7 in periodontium may accelerate tissue regeneration by recruiting more PDLFs to the injured site.

Whether the rating result of mini-clinical evaluation exercise (Mini-CEX) for rating clinical skills is reliable is of a medical trainee's great concerns. The objectives of this study were to analyze the test-retest reliability, interrater reliability and internal consistency reliability of Mini-CEX. ⋯ This study convincingly showed that Mini-CEX is a reliable assessment tool for rating clinical skills, and can be widely used to assess medical trainees' clinical skills.

Recently optimized models for selecting the locations of hospitals capable of providing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) did not consider the accuracy of the prehospital stroke scale assessment and possibility of secondary transport. Our study aimed to propose a new model for selecting existing hospitals with intravenous thrombolysis capability to become EVT-capable hospitals. ⋯ All patients eligible for acute stroke treatment are sent to EVT-capable hospitals in the simulation under the current medical resource allocation model. This model can be utilized to provide insights for capacity redistribution in other regions.

Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive renal transplantation recipients must take lifelong immunosuppressants and nucleotide analogues (NAs). We investigated the cellular immune responses of HBsAg-positive renal transplantation recipients taking immunosuppressants and NAs. ⋯ Immunosuppressant therapy increases viral replication in HBsAg-positive renal transplant recipients due to disabling or dysregulation of virus-specific CD8+ T cells. The higher cellular immune responses due to lower Treg/CD8+ T cell ratios in HBsAg-positive renal transplant recipients may be one of the reasons to induce liver pathology because of uncontrolled viral replication.
