Tissue engineering in dentistry has fundamentally changed the way endodontists assess treatment options. Our previous study found that quercetin-contained mesoporous calcium silicate/calcium sulfate (MSCSQ) could induce hard tissue defect region regeneration. This study focused on whether the MSCSQ scaffold could also be effective in regulating odontogenesis and dentin regeneration. ⋯ Our results demonstrated that MSCSQ scaffolds could enhance physicochemical and biological behaviors compared to mesoporous calcium silicate/calcium sulfate (MSCS) scaffolds. In addition, MSCSQ scaffolds also enhanced odontogenic and immuno-suppressive properties compared to MSCS scaffolds. These results indicated that MSCSQ scaffolds could be considered a potential bioscaffold for clinical applications and dentin regeneration.

This study aimed to establish more practical standardized barium stimuli formulas for the videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) for clinical use. For clinical practice, we established the formula for preparing barium stimuli to comply with different International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) levels. To comply with the definition of IDDSI levels 0-4, the gum-based thickener concentration of thickened barium was 0, 0.3, 0.6, 1.0, and 2.0 g/100 mL, respectively. The formulas established in this study may replace traditional barium stimuli for dysphagia assessment in clinical settings.

The prevalence of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) in Taiwan has been increasing in recent decades. ESKD care and medical expenditures constitute an important part of the entire healthcare system. ⋯ Medical expenditure, including both inpatient and outpatient costs, of the ESKD population continued to grow from 2010 to 2018. The non-dialysis cost in the ESKD population was mainly for cardiovascular disease management and vascular access care, for which prevention will always be challenging.

Multimorbidity is a worldwide issue when aging is rapidly. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of demography, morbidity, disability and depression on short-term and long-term mortality for multimorbid inpatients. ⋯ Our findings suggested that gender, multimorbidity, and disability influenced the two-year survival, while depression was the strongest factor related to long-term mortality. Clinicians should notice the importance of integrated approach and mental health care for those with severe disabilities and morbidity.

The burden of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) continues to grow globally. Information on medication prescribed to advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients can help formulate further CKD prevention policies. This study aimed to review and assess several major medications routinely prescribed to pre-ESKD patients. ⋯ An overview of the trends of major medication usage and blood transfusion represented the continuously improving care quality in pre-ESKD patients in Taiwan. These trends were especially evident in patients enrolled in the pre-ESKD prevention program. This report also indirectly indicated the potential and long-term benefits of implementing CKD and pre-ESKD prevention programs.
