In patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD), oral anticoagulants are contraindicated, and left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is an alternative treatment. However, the efficacy of thromboembolic prevention using LAAO in these patients has rarely been reported in Asian populations. To our knowledge, this is the first long-term LAAO study in patients with AF undergoing dialysis in Asia. ⋯ Long-term outcomes of LAAO therapy may be less favorable in patients with AF undergoing dialysis, possibly because of the poor condition of patients with ESRD.

Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), a novel minimally invasive treatment for esophageal achalasia, has been shown to be effective and safe for both adult and pediatric patients. However, studies on its application in children in Taiwan and its impact on growth and esophageal motility are lacking. ⋯ POEM is an effective and safe treatment for pediatric achalasia in Taiwan. Early diagnosis and treatment with POEM may help to restore esophageal function and nutrition status in children.

Practice Guideline
Clinical practice consensus for the diagnosis and management of melanoma in Taiwan.
Melanoma is rare in Taiwan. Asian melanoma is distinct from Western melanoma because acral and mucosal melanoma accounts for the majority of melanoma cases, leading to distinct tumor behaviors and genetic profiling. With consideration of the clinical guidelines in Western countries, Taiwanese experts developed a local clinical practice consensus guideline. ⋯ In addition, molecular testing for BRAF is mandatory for patients before systemic treatment. Furthermore, immunotherapy and targeted therapy are prioritized for systemic treatment. This consensus aimed to assist clinicians in Taiwan in diagnosing and treating patients according to available evidence.

Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is a rare and potential lethal complication of peritoneal dialysis characterized by bowel obstruction. Surgical enterolysis is the only curative therapy. Currently, there are no tools for predicting postsurgical prognosis. This study aimed to identify a computed tomography (CT) scoring system that could predict mortality after surgery in patients with severe EPS. ⋯ The CT scoring system could be useful in predicting surgical risk in patients with severe EPS receiving enterolysis.
