Observational Study
Comparison of therapeutic outcomes in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy: A prospective observational cohort study.
Patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) may not always receive resection despite the possible achievement of a pathologic complete response (pCR) being associated with superior survival benefit. We aimed to compare outcomes among ESCC patients with or without pCR and those refusing surgery. ⋯ Better pretreatment performance status is associated with higher chance of pCR. Consistent with previous studies, we found attainment of pCR confers the best OS and PFS. Suboptimal OS in the refusal-of-surgery group reflects some of them would have residual disease in addition to complete remission. Further studies are needed to identify prognostic factors of pCR to select candidates who could validly decline esophagectomy.

3D-printing technology is an important tool for the bone tissue engineering (BTE). The aim of this study was to investigate the interaction of polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds and modified mesh PCL coated with beta TCP (PCL/β-TCP) scaffolds with MG-63. ⋯ We concluded that both meshes structured PCL and PCL/β-TCP scaffolds could promote the MG-63 cell growth, and PCL/β-TCP was better than the PCL scaffolds for the outcome of MG63 cell differentiation and mineralization.

Periodic mammography and/or sonography examinations are conducted across numerous hospitals nationalwidely, especially for antedees with a positive mammography screening. Despite the regular practice, clinical efficacy of hospital-based breast cancer surveillance remains unclear. Specifically, the impact of surveillance interval upon survival and prognostic surrogates stratified by menopausal status, as well as malignant transition rate should be deciphered. ⋯ Among breast cancers, mammography alone during the antecedent one to two years had a protective effect for diagnosing carcinoma in situ rather than invasive cancer (age-adjusted odds ratio: 0.048, P = 0.016). Three-state time homogeneous Markov model showed that hospital-based breast surveillance within 2 years of disease onset reduced the malignant transition rate by 65.16% (59.79-76.74%). The clinical efficacy of breast cancer surveillance was evidenced.

In 2020, metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) was proposed to replace non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with new diagnostic criteria. The prevalence and clinical outcomes of MAFLD subtypes remained unclear. ⋯ This population-based study proves the concept that subtypes of MAFLD can help risk stratification of clinical outcomes.
