It should be assessed whether the polymorphisms on androgen receptor gene can affect therapeutic response to androgenetic alopecia (AGA) medications. We aimed to find a link between polymorphisms on the androgen receptor gene (including the number of triple sequences of cytosine, adenine, and guanine [CAG] and guanine-guanine-cytosine [GGC]) and response to treatment with finasteride in male patients. ⋯ Counting of GGC sequence in the gene encoding the androgen receptor is associated with an increase in odds of baldness and a decrease in the response rate to finasteride in AGA patients.

Environmental, genetic, and immunological factors may play a role in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In an attempt to better understand the pathogenesis of AMD, in this study, we evaluated the serum interferon (IFN) levels in patients with AMD and compared it with persons without AMD. ⋯ We found that serum beta IFN levels are higher in patients with AMD. This finding may have diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic value in AMD patients and can be a beginning for further evaluation.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common disorder in infertile people. The aim of this study was the identification of associated risk factors for the severity of GAD in infertile people using an ordinal model with a flexible link function. ⋯ Infertile people with female gender, longer duration of infertility, failure in previous treatments, and self-cause infertility are more likely to experience higher severity levels of GAD and require additional psychological, and support interventions. Furthermore, it can be argued that the ordinal splogit model is more powerful to identify the associated risk factors for the severity of GAD.

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of glucose metabolism disorder and dyslipidemia in 14-18-year-old girls with different phenotype polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). ⋯ The risk of metabolic alterations of glucose metabolism disorder and dyslipidemia in PCOS adolescents was more than non-PCOS counterparts.

The present study was conducted to determine antimicotic susceptibility of Candida species (sp.) from patients with symptomatic candiduria. ⋯ The present study suggests that caspofungin and amphotericin B have the excellent ability to eradicate both Candida groups that showed decreased susceptibility to other compounds.
