The present study was conducted to determine antimicotic susceptibility of Candida species (sp.) from patients with symptomatic candiduria. ⋯ The present study suggests that caspofungin and amphotericin B have the excellent ability to eradicate both Candida groups that showed decreased susceptibility to other compounds.

The present study aimed to determine the frequency of the IL28B polymorphism rs8099917 in patients with genotype 1 hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection treated with pegylated-interferon-α2b (PEG-IFN-α2b) and ribavirin (RBV) and its treatment outcome. ⋯ According to the results of the present study, patients with IL28B rs8099917 TT genotype achieve higher sustained virological response than the GT and GG genotypes. Thus, when there are no alternatives, treatment with PEG-IFN-α2b and RBV combination can be suggested in patients with IL28B TT genotype.

The prevalence of depression and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are increasing in the elderly and are reportedly related to each other. We evaluated the relationship between T2DM-related factors and the degree of depression in elderly patients with T2DM based on gender. ⋯ Greater depression was associated with poorer glycemic control and a longer duration of DM in elderly males with T2DM.

Acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) is mostly seen after head injury and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. We studied the risk factors for ASDH and the effects of these factors on mortality as well as on survival with 100 cases from the rural area of Anatolia region. ⋯ The most important factors affecting the mortality rate were GCS on admission, etiology, age, and laterality of the hematoma in this study. Advanced age, low GCS on admission, and bilaterality of the hematoma were related with high mortality rates. Etiology had an important role in mortality rates, especially in the pedestrian injury group.
