Pancreatic cancer (PC) is associated with a poor prognosis, with various modifiable risk factors affecting the survival of patients. Our aim was to evaluate the survival rate and the prognostic factors influencing survival in PC patients in northwestern Iran. ⋯ Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy were the best predictors of survival in PC patients. Moreover, it seems that resolving jaundice can improve survival in these patients. It seems that increasing social awareness, treating underlying diseases, and employing an appropriate therapeutic method may promise a better outlook, improve the survival rate of patients, and reduce PC risk.

A proper diet plan is one of the necessary conditions for maintaining the children's health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of consumption of pasteurized cow's milk fortified with albumin protein in primary-school children, in Yasuj, Iran. ⋯ The consumption of albumin powder with milk can improve weight-for-age z-score and BMI-for-age z-score indices in children with mild-to-moderate underweight. Larger controlled interventional studies with longer duration are recommended.

In addition to surfactant deficiency, secretion of fluid from blood to the lungs and increase in the fluid content of the lung play significant roles in the pathogenesis of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Thus, we aimed to evaluate the effect of salbutamol (a beta-agonist) on fluid clearance from the lungs in neonates with RDS. ⋯ Findings of this study were not in favor of the routine use of salbutamol in neonates with RDS as it did not improve the course of the disease among newborns.

Using bone turnover marker (BTM) monitoring to identify "quick losers" who may develop osteoporosis in the coming years is one of the main challenges in clinical practice. This study was implemented to examine the association of BTMs with bone mineral density (BMD) as well as to determine their relationship with the fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX) in women in the postmenopausal period. ⋯ The higher serum concentration of OC, OP, and ALP had significant associations with lower BMD. These BTMs can be complementary tools and helpful in the postmenopausal period as measures for screening of bone loss and possible bone fracture.

Application of doxorubicin (DOX) in cancer patients is limited due to its dose-dependent toxicity to nontarget tissues such as testis and subsequent infertility. Due to limitation of our knowledge about the mechanisms of DOX toxicity in the reproductive system, reduction of DOX-induced testicular toxicity remains an actual and primary clinical challenge. Considering the potentials of troxerutin (TXR) in generating a protective phenotype in many tissues, we aimed to examine the effect of TXR on DOX-induced testicular toxicity by evaluating the histological changes and the expression of mitochondrial biogenesis genes and microRNA-140 (miR-140). ⋯ Reduction of DOX-induced testicular toxicity following TXR pretreatment was associated with upregulation of SIRT-1/PGC-1α/NRF-2 profiles and better regulation of miR-140 expression. It seems that improving microRNA-mitochondrial biogenesis network can play a role in the beneficial effect of TXR on DOX-induced testicular toxicity.
