During the course of a non-surgical orthograde endodontic retreatment, supplementary instrumentation is usually required for better removal of root canal filling material. ⋯ The combined action of Mtwo-R retreatment files and XP-Endo Finisher R resulted in significant reduction of the amount of root canal filling material. Nevertheless, none of the examined rotary systems guaranteed its complete removal.

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the consumption of low pH dietary supplements on the color stability of different resin composites. ⋯ Acidic dietary supplements not only produce color alterations in resin composites but also reduce the staining resistance of the composite further, depending on the type of composite and dietary supplement. Consumption of staining food after taking Redoxon effervescent tablets produces greater discoloration in Filtek Z550 restorations compared with other restorative materials.

Patients complain differently about their experiences of post-operative pain. However, clinicians are often guided by their own viewpoints despite the highly subjective nature of pain resulting in suboptimal post-operative pain management. This impacts negatively on the quality of life of patients in the immediate post-operative period. Investigating patients' pain behavior in the pre-operative period may therefore help to predict the intensity of post-operative pain, thereby assisting in identifying patients who are at risk of greater pain after third molar surgery, and allocating extra resources for pain control. ⋯ Sensory-discriminative dimension and affective response to cold pressor test are significant predictors of peak post-operative pain after impacted mandibular third molar surgery.

An Evaluation of the Effect of Using Irrigations at Different Temperatures on Pain, Edema, and Trismus during the Extraction of Bilateral Impacted Mandibular Third Molars: A Randomized Split-Mouth Clinical Trial.
The surgical extraction of impacted wisdom teeth is a standard practice in dentistry. Unfortunately, inflammatory reactions such as discomfort, edema, and trismus frequently jeopardize patients' well-being after the extraction of third molars. Saline solutions at room temperature (25°C) are routinely used in impacted tooth extraction. Refrigerated saline solutions were used to work with cold solutions, and as the refrigerator temperature was 4°C, this study was designed to have a cold solution temperature of 4°C. This study aimed to assess the influence of saline irrigation at various temperatures (4°C, 25°C) on postoperative edema, pain, and trismus after the extraction of impacted third molars. ⋯ Cold irrigation therapy (4°C) exerts beneficial effects more than room temperature (25°C) irrigation on the trismus after impacted mandibular third molar surgery.

Burn injuries account for 4.8% of trauma deaths in Nigeria and annually for 20,000 deaths. ⋯ The prevalence of burn injuries remains high in developing countries. Most causes of burns are preventable. Dangerous traditional practices add to patient morbidity. Education on effective prevention strategies is important in reducing morbidity and mortality.
