This study aimed to compare the clinical results and complications as well as patient satisfaction in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome operated with open carpal tunnel release (OCTR) or endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) techniques. ⋯ ECTR has similar results in terms of symptom relief, severity, functional status, pillar pain and complication rates compared to OCTR. However, it has the advantages of early return to daily life, early return to work and less incision length.

To determine the outcome of early use of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in Pakistani patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. ⋯ There was remarkable improvement in the arterial blood gases after NIPPV. However, the high mortality rate and significant number of COPD patients requiring mechanical ventilation necessitates further investigation into our population.

The associated risk factors for the majority of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are tobacco and betel nut abuse, while there also seems to be a rising proportion of patients who report no history of tobacco or betel nut usage. Therefore, objective of the study was to find out potential risk factors and demographics of HNSCC patients addicted to tobacco and/or betel nut, as well as non-addicted patients. ⋯ Addicted patients commonly have oral cavity cancers. This might be due to the habit of chewing tobacco and/or betel nut that addicted patients have. Non-addicted patients are commonly young females. It is likely that no single known factor is responsible for HNSCC in non-addicted patients, and several occupational exposure studies in future may be important to the etiology of non-addicted patients.

The effects of antenatal corticosteroid exposure on the rate of hyperbilirubinemia in term newborns.
Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is a short-lasting benign condition that affects approximately 60% of infants born at term infants. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of antenatal corticosteroid (ACS) exposure on the rate of hyperbilirubinemia in term newborns. ⋯ The neonatal hyperbilirubinemia was significantly decreased in term-born babies exposed to ACS before 34 weeks.
