To compare the anti-inflammatory effect of sitagliptin and glimepiride by measuring CRP in overweight Type-2 diabetic patients. ⋯ Sitagliptin has strong anti inflammatory effect marked by reduction in CRP level in comparison to glimepiride in overweight type-2 diabetic patients. It also exerted beneficial effect on glycemic and lipid profiles.

Posterolateral thoracotomy is the most frequently used operation in thoracic surgery, and may initiate an inflammatory process. We aimed to evaluate inflammatory response of the body to posterolateral thoracotomy. ⋯ The present study suggests that the novel inflammatory marker PTX-3 may be used in the diagnosis and follow-up of prognosis as a biomarker of inflammatory response in patients with lung cancer. However, it showed that PTX-3 levels are insignificant to identify the levels of inflamatuar response due to posterolateral thoracotomy in thoracic surgery.

Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) is endemic in Baluchistan and treated traditionally with Meglumine antimoniate. Miltefosine appears appealing therapy in cutaneous Leishmaniasis. Our objective was to evaluate safety and efficacy of Miltifossine in treatment of cutaneous Leishmaniasis. ⋯ Miltefosine is safe and cost effective treatment for cutaneous Leishmaniasis. It is effective in CL cases not susceptible to antimony compounds.

Refractive Errors (RE) are responsible for major portion of the treatable visual impairment and avoidable blindness in the world. The prevalence of RE varies with age, gender, ethnicity, geographical locations and also from time to time due to progresse in eye care services. We aimed to study the prevalence of RE and assess their patterns among Saudi adults of Arar city, the capital of Northern Border Region of Saudi Arabia. ⋯ The prevalence of RE in Arar city is slightly lower than that previously published in the same targeted age group. Myopia is the main RE. More awareness programs, especially among young adults are recommended for better outcomes.

To determine immunophenotypic pattern in newly diagnosed cases of acute myeloid leukaemia by flow cytometry and its correlation with morphological findings. ⋯ Flow cytometric analysis of acute leukaemia done by a combination of patterns and intensity of antigen expression improves diagnostic yield in AML. CD13, CD33 and CD45 are the most frequently expressed antigens in AML. Our findings suggest a 90% concordance between morphology and flow cytometry. It is pertinent to conclude that flow cytometry results interpreted with morphology are complementary.
