The purpose of our study was isolation of umbilical cord blood derived mesenchymal stem (UCB-MSCs), their direct differentiation towards keratinocytes without using feeder layers, cAMP inducers and hormones known for morphological maintenance and proliferation of keratinocytes and characterization of UCB-MSCs through flowcytometry and keratinocytes through immunofluorescence. ⋯ Our study concludes possibility of direct differentiation of isolated and cultured UCB-MSCs into keratinocytes without using feeder layers and conventional keratinocyte culture media.

To study the depression among medical and engineering students of different medical and engineering colleges in Karachi, Pakistan. ⋯ In the present study, rate of depression was higher in engineering students as compared to medical students. It is recommended in future that qualitative studies of the causes of depression reducing interventions need to be encouraged in professional program, especially in engineering students.

To determine the clinical value of a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) antibody array in diagnosing gastric cancer (GC). ⋯ The detection of multiple serum MMPs with protein biochip technology is promising to be used as a novel non-invasive tool for facilitating early diagnosis or screening of GC.

Sigmoid volvulus (SV), the wrapping of the sigmoid colon around itself, is a rare colonic obstruction form. SV requires emergency endoscopic or surgical treatment following an urgent resuscitation and the prognosis is relatively poor. ⋯ Thereafter, a great number of relevant subjects were discussed in the literature. The aim of this study is to update the present classification system in light of above-mentioned discussions and our experience with 1,028 SV patients, which is the largest single-centre SV series over the world.

Transient contrast induced neurotoxicity after coronary angiography: A contrast re-challenge case.
Contrast induced neurotoxicity (CIN) is a rare complication of cardiac catheterization and re-exposure to contrast medium carries the risk of recurrent CIN. We report a case of successful contrast re-challenge in a 60-year-old female patient who developed CIN after her first procedure of coronary angiography (CAG) which resulted in symptoms of disorientation, amnesia and cortical blindness. ⋯ Patient's symptoms resolved completely after 72 hours. Two months later, because of persistent exertional angina, patient was successfully re-challenged with lesser amount of contrast medium with administration of hydrocortisone prior to procedure, and PCI to LAD was completed without recurrence of CIN.
