Multi-drug resistant methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains that have been isolated frequently worldwide have difficulties in the treatment and therefore alternative choices for the treatment of the infections are required. The aim of the study was to evaluate the interaction of various antimicrobials in combination with vancomycin against MRSA. ⋯ The results of the study indicate that the use of vancomycin in combination with conventional and new generation antibiotics is promising.

To conduct an on line Flipped Class Room (FCR) to facilitate synchronous (in class activity) and asynchronous learning [Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)] and acquire feedback of the learning experience from medical students at Aga Khan University. ⋯ The innovative model of FCR through facilitation of synchronous and asynchronous learning empowered student's engagement and interactive learning. Students perceived this as a great learning experience which they enjoyed with positive reinforcement from feedback given by the facilitators. They suggested continuation of this model for further learning sessions in other modules of undergraduate medical education at Aga Khan University.

The paper uses block matching method combined with echocardiography to explore the value of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in predicting symptomatic patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants. ⋯ NT-proBNP may be a quantitative indicator of arterial duct shunt; the detection of serum NT-proBNP levels at 3 and 5 days after birth is helpful for early prediction of PDA.

To explore the technical points, approach selection and short-term clinical efficacy of PELD through the intervertebral foramina or interlaminar approach in the treatment of highly shifted LDH. ⋯ When PELD is used to treat high-displacement LDH, the choice of transforaminal approach or interlaminar approach needs to be personalized according to the LDH segment and the direction of displacement.

To examine the long-term outcomes such as recurrence, foreign body feeling and chronic pain of titanium-coated mesh (TCM) versus standard polypropylene mesh (PM) after Lichtenstein repair (LR). ⋯ The result of this study shows that in LR, TCM leads to less foreign body feeling and chronic pain than PM. However, there was no difference in terms of recurrence between these meshes.
