To determine the prevalence of complications of cochlear implant surgery in children with congenital profound sensorineural hearing loss. ⋯ Present public sector implant program is characterized with a very low prevalence of complications of 16(6.4%) with 4(1.6%) major and 12(4.8%) minor complications. Wound infection and acute otitis media were the commonest complications.

To investigate the clinical value of Superb Microvascular Imaging (SMI) combined with low dose CT scanning in differential diagnosis of thyroid lesions and tumor staging. ⋯ SMI combined with low dose CT scanning has a higher diagnostic coincidence rate. Its sensitivity and accuracy are significantly superior. With the increase of tumor malignancy, the enhancement and unhomogeneity of SMI increase, and the edge is more blurred. That suggests: with the increase of tumor malignancy, neovascularization in the tumor is more obvious and more unevenly distributed; the increase of edge blur indicates more obvious tumor infiltration. The method has considerable clinical value for predicting the malignancy of tumors.

To determine the serum immunoglobulin E and serotonin levels of patients with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) with and without treatment. ⋯ Antibiotics may revert the higher levels of IgE but cannot attenuate the decreased levels of neurotransmitter (serotonin) like healthy individuals, therefore, depression levels of CSOM patients should be monitored, scored and attenuated with proper intervention of antidepressants or counseling.

The intercourse between Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma etc. (ESC) and Celiac disease (CD) is still a complicated subject. The purpose of this research was to define the relationship between CD and ESC, and the factors associated with CD in patients with ESC. ⋯ The present study demonstrated a statistically significant positive correlation between ESC and CD. Most remarkably, higher creatinine, glucose, and AST levels may predict CD in patients with ESC. These evidences may lead novel approaches for preventing ESC in patients with CD.

To investigate the relationship between left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and coronary artery disease in the very elderly (over 80 years old) patients with hypertension. ⋯ LVH is an independent risk factor for coronary artery stenosis and calcification in the very elderly patients with hypertension, but there is no statistical difference in the correlation between LVH and the degree of coronary stenosis.
