To compare the levels of glycated albumin and angiopoietin-2 in Type-Two diabetics with and without diabetic retinopathy. ⋯ Our study reported raised levels of glycated albumin (percent) and angiopoietin-2 in type-two diabetics, highlighting their possible involvement in disease and its progression.

To determine accuracy of SAGES, ASGE and ESGE criteria for predicting presence of common bile duct (CBD) stones. ⋯ HR strata of SAGES, ASGE and ESGE scores have excellent accuracy in predicting CBD stones whereas IR and LR criteria are suboptimal for excluding CBD stones.

To determine the correlation between the expression of silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) and enhancer of zeste two polycomb repressive complex two subunit (EZH2) and peritoneal function in patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN) and peritoneal dialysis. ⋯ Serum SIRT1 and EZH2 expressions in patients with DN undergoing peritoneal dialysis are closely related to their peritoneal function. They have certain diagnostic value for the poor prognosis of patients with DN undergoing peritoneal dialysis.

Determination of hemoglobinopathies is significant for epidemiological studies. There is a need to identify burden of hemoglobinopathies at national level to lay down the foundation of appropriate screening and prevention programs. The present study aimed to evaluate the spectrum of hemoglobinopathies along with hematological and biochemical parameters in a tertiary care hospital. ⋯ Apparently, overall frequency is static however, results of this study are not applicable to general population due to sample bias. Moreover, true figures are difficult to identify due to high incidence of iron deficiency anemia that masks the diagnosis by conventional techniques. Molecular characterization by DNA analysis is the most reliable tool of diagnosis. However, this method is not widely available in our country due to lack of expertise and cost issues.

The purpose of our study was to investigate the incidence and prognostic significance of baseline and control uric acid values in COVID-19. ⋯ In our study, hypouricemia was not found to be a major feature of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Low baseline uric acid levels were associated with increased ICU admission. The decline in uric acid levels during hospital stay predicted poor prognosis, as well.
