To describe current trends and characteristics of esophageal cancer (EC) over the past ten years largest tertiary care hospital of Karachi, Pakistan. ⋯ According to our findings, SQC is more prevalent than ADC. Female predominance especially at younger age was most common as compared to past studies. No significant association between a single risk factor has been found in our study however smoking and betel nut chewing were found as known putative risk factors.

Laparoscopic nephrectomy has been adopted by many centers in the last few decades. However, there are a few inherent challenges while adopting laparoscopic nephrectomy in a new unit. These include a significant learning curve required to adopt this modality. This study aimed to share the initial experience of adopting laparoscopic nephrectomy at our center. ⋯ In a newly developed urology center, laparoscopic nephrectomy can be a daunting task. Good teamwork among the surgical team members and careful selection of cases can result in satisfactory procedural outcomes.

To investigate the levels of white blood cell count (WBC), procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in patients with acute community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections and the value of their combined detection in predicting the occurrence of complications. ⋯ The combined detection of WBC, PCT, CRP and ESR has substantial predictive value in predicting the occurrence of complications in patients with community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections.

To explore the efficacy of Danshen injection combined with calcitriol and calcium/Vitamin-D in the treatment of osteoporotic fractures. ⋯ Danshen injection combined with calcitriol and calcium/Vitamin-D for the treatment of osteoporotic fractures can effectively reduce inflammation, regulate bone metabolism, and improve fracture treatment efficacy with a favorable safety profile.

To construct a predictive model of nosocomial infection in patients with upper urinary tract (UUT) stones after flexible ureterorenoscopy with laser lithotripsy (FURSLL). ⋯ Risk of nosocomial infection in patients with UUT stones after FURSLL is affected by older age, diabetes, preoperative urinary system infection, ureteral stenosis, hydronephrosis, double J-stent retention time, and stone diameter. The nomogram prediction model, constructed based on the above factors, has good predictive value.
