Patient safety is a major concern in health care. Research is an important tool to minimize preventable errors. Research performance and trends evaluation need to be identified for future guidance. Our objective was to evaluate the research performance in Arab World countries related to patient safety so that real picture is available to all stake holders for future application. ⋯ Researches on patient safety in the Arab World are not sufficient. Countries other than Egypt and Saudi Arabia also need to contribute more frequently. Critical problems, like Hospital Acquired Infections, should have regular research from all countries to assist those treating patients and those making health related policies.

Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) is an uncommon, idiosyncratic, potentially fatal dermatologic emergency affecting skin and mucous membranes. It is characterized clinically by blistering and widespread exfoliation, and pathologically by apoptosis of keratinocytes and epidermal necrosis. Drugs are one of the most common causative agents. ⋯ The patient being reported developed TEN, secondary to lamotrigine; an anti-epileptic drug also used for bipolar disorder. On admission, lamotrigine was discontinued, he was managed symptomatically and given IVIG for three days. His condition started to improve after the first dose and he got discharged on 6th day of admission.

Beta-thalassemia major (β-Thal) and compound heterozygote of Sickle β-thalassemia (S-β Thal) are hereditary autosomal recessive disorders resulting from mutations or deletion in β-globin gene cluster. Patients with increased HbF levels having polymorphism at BCL11A site loci have shown clinical significance. The present study aimed to assess the frequency of BCL11A gene polymorphism in a study population of β-Thal, S-β Thal & Controls using Sanger sequencing leading to plot the HbF response of polymorphism with reference to wild type. ⋯ The patient groups of SCD and Beta thalassemia are devoid of wild type status. The wild type status of BCL11A is 57% even in control population. Higher level of HbF in B-thalassemia and SCD and B Thalassemia is a cost-effective screening marker before switching to an expensive genotyping testing.

The scarcity of successful implementation of integrated modular curriculum in Pakistan created a lack of evidence-based insight into the process of curriculum transformation. We explored the issue by exploring challenges faced by faculty in implementing integrated modular curriculum. ⋯ The curricular shift precipitates demoralizing challenges at multiple levels & directions. The identified themes and connections provide the framework for a well-informed curricular shift.
