To retrospectively identify the factors associated with eye disorders and diseases. ⋯ It is noteworthy in terms of eye health that nearly half of the participants have at least one eye disorder and/or disease, and nearly half of them use glasses and/or contact lenses. It is also important that eye disorders and diseases are seen more together with smoking, obesity, allergies, genetic and chronic diseases, and steroid use. We emphasize the holistic approach of family medicine and the importance of cooperation with other clinics in terms of eye health.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been increasingly recognized as a comorbidity in many psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder (BD). This study aimed to synthesize existing evidence to determine the frequency of OSA in patients diagnosed with BD and identify potential predictors of its occurrence. ⋯ Our results demonstrated higher incidence of OSA in patients with BD. Male BD patients had higher rate of OSA.

To observe the fetomaternal outcome of therapeutic versus prophylactic blood transfusions in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) during pregnancy. ⋯ Our study demonstrates that prophylactic blood transfusion in SCD positively alters the course of pregnancy by reducing fetomaternal complications.

Chronic suppurative otitis media is a fatal condition owing to its propensity for intracranial extension. The inadvertent use of antibiotics has led to resistance among causative organisms. The objectives of this study were to determine causative bacteria, their antibiotic resistance and susceptibility patterns, and their response to antibiotics after a one-month follow-up. ⋯ Moderate to high resistance against ciprofloxacin, third-generation cephalosporin, ampicillin, amoxicillin plus clavulanate, and clindamycin is an eye-opener. Our results underscore the critical need for judicious administration of empirical antibiotics.

To identify the disease-causing variant in a family with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). ⋯ This study reported a Han-Chinese TSC patient with a recurrent variant TSC2 c.5126C>T (p.P1709L). These findings broaden the phenotypic spectrum of TSC caused by this variant and may contribute to improving TSC genetic diagnoses as well as understanding of its mechanisms.
