Extraction of DNA and RNA is the first step in genomics and transcriptomics studies. Phenol-chloroform method for DNA extraction has been the widely used method. However, this method is relatively expensive and time-consuming. The objective of the present study was to validate a cost and time-effective protocol that will reduce the burden of molecular biology-based research and make a difference in laboratories with limited resources. ⋯ The TRIzol™ method for RNA and DNA co-extraction is fast, simple and economical technique. So, it can be adopted for routine molecular biology analyses in limited resources setup.

Polymorphism in cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and its regulatory gene peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPARA) may significantly affect the metabolism of tacrolimus. This study aims to explore the effect of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of cytochrome P450 3A4 and PPARA on the pharmacological variables of adverse effects and the concentration-to-dose ratio (CDR) of the immune suppressant drug tacrolimus in Pakistani liver transplant recipients. ⋯ Genotyping for CYP3A4 rs35599367 polymorphism during dose titration may shorten the duration to reach optimal tacrolimus trough levels and may help predict adverse events in transplant recipients receiving tacrolimus; genotyping for PPARA rs4253728 and rs4823613 may predict the incidence of ACR.

To investigate the clinical correlation between the expression of serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) as well as cognitive impairment and disease burden in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. ⋯ Patients with first-episode schizophrenia have remarkably increased expression levels of serum TNF-α and iNOS, which is associated with cognitive impairment and disease burden.

To study the correlation of eradication and recurrence with IL-1 β, IL-6 and TNF-α levels in children with Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection. ⋯ Higher levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α may affect the eradication effect of triple therapy in Children with Hp infection, and increased levels of IL-6 and TNF-α may affect the recurrence rate of Hp infection in children.
