A bunch of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, China, was caused by a novel beta-corona virus, (COVID-19) in December 2019 from where it spread rapidly across the globe. The aim of the study was to find out relevant reasons and offered suggestions to reduce the risk of infection and check clinical outcomes of the infected healthcare workers. ⋯ Our results showed increased rate of positive cases with fortunately lower mortality rate, although this novel pneumonia was associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome ARDS and intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Timely decisions, risk awareness knowledge and supply of necessary equipments are inevitable for the control of such epidemics.

To investigate whether a combination of clinical risk factors, early pregnancy serum markers, and uterine artery pulsatility index (UTPI) can be used to predict twin preeclampsia (PE). ⋯ By combining early pregnancy serum markers (β-HCG), and UTPI, the predictive value for PE during twin pregnancy is improved together with its sensitivity and specificity.

This study was aimed at exploring the effects of hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg) status on the cellular immune function of patients with hepatitis B virus/treponema pallidum (HBV/TP) co-infection. ⋯ HBeAg+ can increase the HBV-DNA levels in the PB of patients with HBV/TP co-infection, in turn triggering the body to initiate cellular immunity, increasing the levels of T lymphocyte subsets, and promote the secretion of cytokines.

To investigate the clinical effect of mild hypothermia combined with intravenous thrombolysis in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction. ⋯ Thrombolytic therapy combined with mild hypothermia has a good efficacy in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction. The therapy can improve the neurological function of patients with acute cerebral infarction by significantly improving the oxidative stress index and relieving the inflammatory reaction. Its efficacy is better than single thrombolytic therapy.

To investigate adipocytokines' (vaspin, omentin-1, and adiponectin) correlation with metabolic phenotypes in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. ⋯ The DM group displayed substantially lower serum vaspin and omentin-1 levels. However, there was no consistent relationship observed between these adipocytokines and metabolic phenotypes.
