Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen with remarkable adaptation ability to thrive in diverse environmental conditions. This study aimed at phenotypic and molecular analysis of metallo beta lactamases (blaIMP, blaVIM, blaNDM-1 and blaSPM-1) and genetic diversity analysis among imipenem resistant clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. ⋯ A high prevalence of blaIMP and blaNDM-1 among imipenem resistant isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is alarming that calls for proper control and prevention strategies. RAPD technique was found to be a good genotyping technique when limited resources are available.

This study was aimed at exploring the effects of hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg) status on the cellular immune function of patients with hepatitis B virus/treponema pallidum (HBV/TP) co-infection. ⋯ HBeAg+ can increase the HBV-DNA levels in the PB of patients with HBV/TP co-infection, in turn triggering the body to initiate cellular immunity, increasing the levels of T lymphocyte subsets, and promote the secretion of cytokines.

To determine the relationship of Neutrophils to lymphocytes ratio (NLR) values with the benign and malignant thyroid nodules. ⋯ According to the results of this study, we concluded that preoperative period biochemistry laboratory results such as neutrophils count, lymphocyte count, and NLR value don't provide enough evidence to differentiate between benign and malignant thyroid carcinoma.

Acromegaly is a chronic disorder resulting from excessive secretion of growth hormone and (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and is associated with several comorbidities. These complications contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality associated with this condition thus early diagnosis leads to better outcomes. There have been studies in other countries to assess the comorbidities associated with acromegaly. However, we do not have any recent data with regards to Pakistan. So, in order to demonstrate the prevalence of demographics, hormonal disorders, and other complications associated with acromegaly we conducted this study. ⋯ Acromegaly is associated with cardiovascular and endocrinal disorders. Screening for these disorders at the time of diagnosis can lead to early management and better outcomes translating into decreased mortality.
