Patterns and predictors of long-term retention of inflammatory bowel or rheumatoid disease patients on innovator infliximab: an analysis of a Canadian prescriptions claims database.
Long-term effectiveness is an important factor when considering treatment decisions. ⋯ Real-world Canadian IBD and RD patients on IFX have good overall long-term treatment retention. Previous duration of IFX treatment predicts better future retention, and this knowledge could help inform treatment decisions when patients have been stable on IFX treatment for varying periods of time.

A pilot study of observed physician-parent-child communication and child satisfaction in a gastroenterology clinic.
Child participation in pediatric medical visits is low. In this pilot study, we sought to better understand relationships between observed communication and child-reported perceptions of communication in a clinical setting. ⋯ Facilitative communication may improve outcomes by enhancing child participation and thus exchange of medical information, whereas chit-chat appears to positively impact children's perceptions of communication.

Medication-related risk factors associated with health-related quality of life among community-dwelling elderly in China.
Previous studies have demonstrated that medication adherence has an impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, other medication-related factors that may influence HRQoL have not been extensively studied, especially factors based on the Medication-Risk Questionnaire (MRQ), and such studies are mostly done in Western countries. Our objective was to explore risk factors associated with HRQoL among community-dwelling elderly with chronic diseases in mainland China, especially the medication-related risk factors regarding MRQ. ⋯ Patient's internal characteristics and medication-related risk factors according to MRQ were associated with quality of life. The results of the MRQ is an indicator of quality of life that can identify patients who need interventions.

High treatment adherence, satisfaction, motivation, and health-related quality of life with fingolimod in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis - results from a 24-month, multicenter, open-label Danish study.
Treatment adherence is a prerequisite for treatment success and therefore an important consideration to assure that therapeutic goals are achieved both from a patient point of view and for optimal health care resource utilization. Published data on treatment adherence with fingolimod (Gilenya®) are limited. Therefore, this study investigated treatment adherence in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) treated with fingolimod in Denmark. ⋯ High levels of treatment adherence, satisfaction, motivation, and QoL were observed in Danish RRMS patients treated with fingolimod. As these positive measures were observed at all study visits and throughout the study, no effect of the motivational interview support program was found.

Predicting medication nonadherence risk in a Chinese inflammatory rheumatic disease population: development and assessment of a new predictive nomogram.
The aim of this study was to develop and internally validate a medication nonadherence risk nomogram in a Chinese population of patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases. ⋯ This novel nonadherence nomogram incorporating the use of GC, the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the number of medicine-related questions, education level, and distance to hospital could be conveniently used to facilitate the individual medication nonadherence risk prediction in IRD patients.
