A patient and community-centered approach selecting endpoints for a randomized trial of a novel advance care planning tool.
Despite a movement toward patient-centered outcomes, best practices on how to gather and refine patients' perspectives on research endpoints are limited. Advanced care planning (ACP) is inherently patient centered and would benefit from patient prioritization of endpoints for ACP-related tools and studies. ⋯ Using a novel combination of engagement and research techniques provided the opportunity to understand which endpoints were most important to patients and families and fostered framework development clarifying the differential contributions of engagement and research. Results from this study ultimately changed the content and evaluation of the ACP video.

Bipolar disorder and adherence: implications of manic subjective experience on treatment disruption.
Therapeutic observance is one of the cornerstones of bipolar disease prognosis. Nostalgia of previous manic phase has been described as a cause of treatment retrieval in bipolar disorder. But to date no systematic study has examined manic episode remembering stories. Our aim was to describe manic experience from the patient's point of view and its consequences on subjective relation to care and treatment adherence. ⋯ Consciousness destructuring associated with mood elation should explain treatment disruption in bipolar I patients more than nostalgia. Taking a manic episode story into account may help patients, family, and practitioners to achieve better compliance by improving their comprehension and integration of this unusual experience.

Integrating factors associated with hypertensive patients' self-management using structural equation modeling: a cross-sectional study in Guangdong, China.
Hypertension is considered a major public health issue worldwide because of its high frequency and concomitant risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Chronic-disease self-management has been proven to be cost-effective, but influencing factors and pathways remain complex and unclear. The purpose of this study was to integrate factors associated with hypertension self-management to provide a theoretical reference for community hypertension management. ⋯ Medication adherence is the lowest dimension in self-management, and self-efficacy is vital to consider in the development of self-management interventions. Self-management education and mutual-help groups may be potential solutions with the power of technology. Younger patients with lower CVD risk and shorter disease course are vulnerable and need more attention.

Patients' preferences in periodontal disease treatment elicited alongside an IQWiG benefit assessment: a feasibility study.
The German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) previously tested two preference elicitation methods in pilot projects and regarded them as generally feasible for prioritizing outcome-specific results of benefit assessment. The present study aimed to investigate the feasibility of completing a discrete choice experiment (DCE) within 3 months and to determine the relative importance of attributes of periodontal disease and its treatment. ⋯ A preference analysis performing a DCE can be generally feasible within 3 months; however, a good research infrastructure and access to patients is required. Outcomes used in benefit assessments might need to be adapted to be used in preference analyses.

Treatment satisfaction and quality of life in patients treated with fingolimod.
The development of oral treatments for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) may alter patient satisfaction and quality of life (QoL). The aim of this survey was to evaluate treatment satisfaction and QoL in patients treated with fingolimod in everyday clinical practice in France. ⋯ The majority of patients treated with fingolimod are satisfied with their treatment. Treatment satisfaction is associated with better self-rated QoL and an improvement of QoL since starting treatment.
